✨ Meet Bianca — Our Little Fighter ✨

Bianca, one of our smallest patients at Excelsior Springs Animal Clinic, developed Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP) shortly after her spay. Until just a few years ago, FIP was considered 100% fatal — but that’s beginning to change.

FIP occurs when a common feline virus, which normally lives harmlessly in the intestines, mutates and causes an abnormal immune response. This leads to inflammation and fluid buildup, like the swelling Bianca had in her abdomen. It often follows stressful events, such as surgery or rehoming, and is most commonly seen in cats under 2 years old.

💡 The good news: FIP is not considered contagious to other cats or pets.

Bianca has started an antiviral medication that’s been used successfully in Europe and is now becoming available here in the U.S. She’s already showing incredible improvement — gaining weight, full of energy again, and the fluid in her belly has nearly resolved.

Stay tuned as we follow Bianca’s journey to becoming ESAC’s first FIP remission success story, and we’re so proud of this brave little kitten. 💛
