🐱 What Is Feline Leukemia (FeLV)?

Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV) is one of the most common contagious diseases affecting cats. It weakens a cat's immune system, making it harder for them to fight off infections and increasing the risk of certain cancers and other illnesses.

❓How does it spread?❓
FeLV is passed from cat to cat through close contact, such as grooming, sharing food and water bowls, bite wounds, or from a mother cat to her kittens.

❓Can it be prevented? ❓
Yes! Vaccination is recommended for many cats, especially those who spend time outdoors or live with other cats. Regular testing is also important for new kittens and cats entering a household.

Signs of FeLV may include:
🐾 Weight loss
🐾 Poor appetite
🐾 Fever
🐾 Pale gums
🐾 Frequent infections
🐾 Low energy

Some infected cats may not show signs of illness for months or even years, which is why routine veterinary care is so important.

Ollie is just an unknown mixed breed puppy growing up in an animal shelter. 😭
This handsome boy was found at the skate park back on May 28th and never claimed. He's been here almost 2 months!! He is about 7-8 months old and all vetted and vaccinated and ready to go! Ollie loves to play. He gets along so good with other dogs! His BFF (Diezel) was just adopted this week, and he's left to play with all the boring grown-up pups. What puppy wants that?!! Ollie has a fun and happy and sweet disposition. He craves attention and is just so loving! He's doing great in his kennel overnight, but will still need guidance and encouragement regarding house training. Ollie's adoption fee is $160.00, which includes neuter, vaccinations and microchip.

☀️🌡️ Heat Advisory: Keep Your Pets Safe! 🐾

A heat advisory is in effect, and our furry friends are especially vulnerable to high temperatures.

Here are a few simple ways to help keep your pet safe:
💧 Make sure they always have access to fresh, cool water.
🌳 Keep outdoor time short and provide plenty of shade.
🚶 Walk dogs early in the morning or later in the evening when it's cooler.
🐾 Check the pavement before walks—if it's too hot for your hand, it's too hot for their paws.
🚗 Never leave your pet in a parked vehicle, even for a few minutes. Temperatures inside a car can become dangerous very quickly.

❓What is Leptospirosis?❓

Leptospirosis is a serious bacterial disease that can affect both dogs and us humans. Dogs can become infected by drinking or coming into contact with contaminated water, soil, or urine from infected wildlife such as raccoons, skunks, opossums, and rodents.

⚠️ Watch out for these signs:
• Fever
• Vomiting or diarrhea
• Loss of appetite
• Lethargy
• Increased thirst or urination
• Muscle pain or stiffness
• Yellowing of the eyes or gums (jaundice)

Without prompt treatment, leptospirosis can cause severe kidney and liver damage.

✅ How to help protect your dog:
• Keep your dog away from standing water whenever possible.
• Discourage contact with wildlife and rodents.
• Talk with your veterinarian about whether the leptospirosis vaccine is recommended for your dog's lifestyle and your area's risk.
• Seek veterinary care right away if your dog shows signs of illness after exposure to potentially contaminated water or wildlife.
