Today, we remember and celebrate the life of Calvin — the very first official Ugly Chews taste tester. Calvin was more than just a dog; he was a best friend, a trailblazer, and the heart behind so much of what we do.
Born on a cattle ranch in the Wind River Mountains in 2008, Calvin was one of only two red Aussies in his litter. From the moment he met his family, they chose each other — and that bond carried them through nearly 17 wonderful years. Out of love for Calvin, his family became passionate about feeding only the highest-quality foods and treats. He proudly helped test Ugly Chews in its earliest days, shaping the vision of safe, natural enrichment for dogs everywhere.
Calvin’s legacy doesn’t stop there. He inspired his family to dedicate their lives to helping senior and special-needs pets, eventually leading to the founding of Gray Muzzle Society, a nonprofit that gives animals the chance to grow old with love and dignity.
In Calvin’s memory, we’ve made a donation to Gray Muzzle Society to continue his legacy of compassion. His life reminds us why we do what we do: every chew, every treat, every wag matters.
