Ticks are sneaky because they don’t usually attach in the obvious places. They look for warm, dark, moist spots where they can hide and feed without being noticed.

A quick routine after walks can make a big difference, even if your dog is on a preventative. Run your fingers through the coat and feel for tiny bumps, then check the “favorite” hiding zones:
under the collar, under the tail, inside the groin area, between the toes, under the front legs, and around the elbow area. Some can even latch near eyelids, so if your dog is squinting or rubbing their face, it’s worth a careful look.

If you find a tick, remove it calmly with fine tweezers or a tick tool by grabbing as close to the skin as possible and pulling straight out. Then clean the area and monitor for irritation. And if your dog becomes lethargic, feverish, limps, or seems “off” in the days after, a vet call is a smart move.
