We are thrilled to share that Nessa, who had been missing for over a week, is back home safe and sound.

Owner, Heather, said she showed up at the house a couple times last night, and she was able to get her in the garage this morning!

A big shout out of gratitude to Canine Crusaders and Michael Valerio for their diligent effort in the search for Nessa! We are so lucky to have their services available in our community and the countless hours they volunteer to help bring lost pets to safety!

WHO WORE IT BEST?

🐶 Roxie or 🪽 Sally Field as the Flying Nun?

Drop a 🐶 or 🪽 in the comments!

Side note - Roxie will be having another minor procedure to correct her ACL with a 2-3 week recovery time. Send our favorite judgmental shelter pup all the good vibes!

🚨NESSA (aka Daisy) RECENTLY ADOPTED FROM EHS - IS HOME!!!

5/30 Update: NESSA IS SAFE AT HOME!

5/28 Update:

🚩Nessa was spotted on East 32nd heading through the woods towards Bird Drive LAST NIGHT. We have a trap set near there.

🚩🚩THIS MORNING she was seen behind a house on East 33rd heading towards McClelland. Those people put out some food and a trail cam so hopefully they spot her. She needs to stay in those woods and out of traffic!

Do not chase.
Do not call Nessa.
Call HEATHER! ⬇️⬇️⬇️

☎️ 814-460-5260 with any sightings!

EHS Friends - please share and keep an eye out if you live in the area below. Nessa, (previously Daisy) was recently adopted from our shelter. She was spooked by a neighbor's dog and slipped her collar and has been missing for over a week. Thankfully, she seems to be staying in an area close to her home. Nessa's owner, Heather, is working closely with Canine Crusaders to track and bring her home safely, but unfortunately she's still hiding out. As of 8am this morning, May 27, she is still missing. Please, please continue to keep an eye out for Nessa!

From Nessa's owner, Heather:

🚩 Last likely sighting was near 40th and Rice Ave on 5/26 but she could have gone in any direction!

🚩 Please do not go searching woods or anything for her because she is very skittish and we don't want her to run.

🚩 Check your yards and cameras if you have them. She can and does jump fences so if you see her in your yard don't try to catch her, just report it here or call me at 814-460-5260.

🚩 Please share this post, spread the word! If you live anywhere in my area, talk to your neighbors and see if they have seen her. She went missing from East 43rd Street between Rice and Koehler. She has been seen around Roxana Drive as well as McClelland Ave near the church and apartments.

These are the posts that are so difficult to write because they are difficult to feel.

After what seemed to be a promising prognosis yesterday for our little guy, Sid, we are heartbroken to share that he peacefully went to sleep overnight and did not wake up this morning.

Any loss of a shelter pet deeply affects our staff, but losses like this leave us with so many unanswered questions — wondering what changed so rapidly, and why this spunky little fighter suddenly could not keep going. Unfortunately, these are answers we may never have.

What we do know is that Sid was loved. He was comforted, cared for, and surrounded by people who wanted nothing more than to help him heal.

We are incredibly grateful for the outpouring of love, good vibes, prayers, and generous donations made to support Sid’s care. In honor of his memory, those funds will continue helping pets currently in our care, including several nursing mothers and newborn kittens, as well as cats receiving treatment for serious medical conditions such as FIP, eye removal surgery, and extensive dental care.

While our hearts are heavy today, we take comfort in knowing that Sid is now at peace across the rainbow bridge.

Thank you for continuing to stand behind the Erie Humane Society and our mission to make life better for homeless pets in need. Your compassion allows us to keep showing up for animals like Sid — even on the hardest days. ❤️

UPDATE 5/27: It is with heavy hearts that we share our little Sid has crossed the Rainbow Bridge. Full update posted above at https://tinyurl.com/3h3zt4nn.

UPDATE 5/26: Unfortunately, Sid is too small to have surgery, so we will continue his medical treatment and monitor his condition while he grows and gets stronger. Thankfully, we were able to stop the eyeball from protruding and he is stable. Sid will most likely need to have both eyes removed once he is big enough. He will still be able to lead a happy, healthy life and navigate with his other senses. Sid is resting, feasting, and being feisty when he feels the urge. Please continue sending him good vibes and we will share updates on his progress. Thank you to all who have donated, sent well wishes, and shared his story!

⚠️ Warning: Graphic images included ⚠️

Meet Sid — a tiny 5-week-old kitten who arrived at the Erie Humane Society yesterday in need of urgent medical care.

Sid’s left eye is severely injured and protruding, causing him significant pain and discomfort. Our staff immediately provided first aid, pain medication, and antibiotics to help keep him comfortable. On Tuesday, Sid will undergo surgery to have the damaged eye removed.

Despite everything he’s been through, Sid is active, alert, and otherwise appears to be doing well. He’s already showing us just how resilient little kittens can be.

Cases like Sid’s are heartbreaking, and unfortunately, they are not uncommon. Every day, we care for pets who are sick, injured, frightened, abandoned, neglected, or simply lost and hoping to find their way home. We stretch our resources as far as possible to help as many animals in need as we can.

When we say it takes a village, we truly mean it.

Your support helps keep the lights on, the water running, the food bowls full, and lifesaving medical care available for pets like Sid. It helps ensure that animals who arrive scared, hurting, and vulnerable are met with compassion, comfort, and hope.

If you would like to help offset the cost of Sid’s care and support the many homeless pets who rely on us each day, please click the donate button below or visit our website at eriehumanesociety.org.

Thank you for being part of the village that makes stories like Sid’s possible.
