Rusty B Rabbitry

Considering we usually hit 1-2 ARBA shows a month, the stretch from June to August with nothing in between seemed sooooo long. Glad to be back at it today to kick off the fall show season. Our first Illinois show was great.

I had a great run in open with my broken black doe, Forbidden Fruit, taking BOB all 3 shows. My blue junior buck was BOS for two of those.

The kids had mostly young satins to show and really have weird mix of young/growing rabbits so we weren’t sure how things would go. Leah still ended up BOS in show C with a white buck. Donovan had nice comments on his otters and blacks and Leah took most of the white BOV/BOSVs.

I had to scratch two Cals for entry errors on my part. Despite only have 2 senior does to show, Donovan’s doe still managed to get BOB all 3 shows. One BIS judge remarked she would have been a contender on the BIS table if she was cleaned up a bit(unfortunately she stained herself while we were on vacation).

Looking forward to state convention in a few weeks.

I have a nice Junior Californian buck, already at 9lbs, that can find a new barn for a lower than normal price.

The catch is he likes to spray on himself. Not horribly, but I don’t have the time or energy to keep p*e pants around. PM if interested.

Rabbit day at the fair was a hot one. Donovan ended up having the only fryer entry but went on to take Grand Champion market rabbit over the roasters and meat pens. His roaster was 3rd and his meat pen was 2nd.

Donovan took BOB in Satins and Californians and both BOB/BOS in thriantas. Leah was BOB/BOS “any other commercial breed” in open and Donovan was BOB with Cals in open. He also earned a blue in showmanship, losing to an excellent master showman by only 3 points!

Glad the showing is over so we can try not to melt. Now just to wait on the auction!

When raising meat rabbits(or any livestock, really), I believe in using as much of the animal as possible. This ensures nothing goes to waste and honors the life of the animal being raised.

Donovan tanned a few rabbit hides this year for projects, in addition to using the meat for meals. Both his rabbit hide coin purse and his rabbit Alfredo lasagna earned runner up awards at our fair this week. He also built a nest box, as we can never have enough of those!

Senior (brood) blue satin buck - proven

Had a pretty good weekend in Galesville but like usual, got very few pictures.

Donovan had BOB Thrianta all 4 shows and had 3rd place senior doe showing in the open specialty.

Donovan had an honorable mention at the BIS table both A & B. Sunday he had an honorable mention for BOB on Sunday.

Today was not as good of a day for us but the kids still had several BOV/BOSV wins.

I took BOB in show B yesterday as well as a handful of smaller wins through the other three shows.

Excited to be heading home before 2pm!@
