πŸ“£ PSA πŸ“£

Not sure who needs to hear this, but we are NOT a rescue, not a sanctuary, and are sure NOT A DUMPING GROUNDS for unwanted animals.

We are the home of 23 cats and 4 dogs currently looking for homes. We do not have the resources or the manpower, either paid or volunteer, to concentrate on adopting these guys out, like a legitimate rescue would have and do. We can't attend or host adoption events, our team doesn't have the time and we are not set up for those types of events.

Despite that, we have been fortunate enough to have adopted out quite a few over the years. Some of you fine folks have even adopted your furry best friend from us, and for that, we are eternally grateful.

We have heard the comment numerous times before......what's one more? One more is A LOT. On average, one cat cost $800 a year to maintain, and those are just the tangible items. That does not include the hours of cleaning, scooping litter boxes, laundry from blankets that have been puked on or dirtied, dishes washed. And in general just hours spent caring for them..... Because they deserve more than just food and water. And that doesn't include any major illnesses that crop up. Now multiply that by the 27 animals that live here. And multiply that again by at least 10 years if not longer. Personally, I have FOUR 16 year old cats at home myself and have had several cats prior live into their early 20's....a lot longer than a decade.

Every team member that works here has multiple animals at home. Every team member who works here has taken multiple dumped or abandoned animals. Our personal homes are full. Our family's homes are full. Our friend's homes are full. And WE are responsible for filling them.

We have had cats taped up an Amazon boxes thrown over our fences into our loose dog yards. We have had them left in carriers at our door. We have had people roll up, toss them out and rip out down the driveway. One person even sent three of their small children to carry boxes onto our property from a neighboring business to avoid our cameras catching their license plate, only to have some of the cats escape in the middle of winter. We then had to spend months trapping them. We have had countless dogs just abandoned here, whose owners drop off for day care or check in for boarding knowing they are never coming back for that pet, while we are completely left in the dark until literally closing time and no owner returns.

I understand there is a cat problem in this town....and quite literally everywhere. I understand all the rescues are full. But that doesn't give anyone the right to dump their 'problem' on anyone else.

We are baffled why we are expected to do the right thing by these animals by caring for them and getting them spayed and neutered, but the people who are dumping them are not. Why are the standards different? There are programs and resources available. There isn't a rescue in this town that I know of that would not help get an animal get to a low-cost spay neuter clinic, get someone set up on a food distribution, etc. There is simply no legitimate excuse. And if you want to complain that resources should be more plentiful or help should be more readily available, then get out there and advocate instead of arm chair jockeying. Lots of people have an opinion and want change, but it always ends up being the same 10 voices in town that actually show up. This problem affects us all, not just those few. And it's beyond time for the people that can make the change be forced to make it, but it's going to take more than the same handful of folks to make things a legitimate threat to get something done.

I understand at the end of the day .... People don't want to be inconvenienced. They don't want to spend their money on something they don't want to spend it on. They don't want to spend their time on something they don't want to spend it on. But they sure do want to spend their opinion. I don't understand why we don't get the same options then? Why not? Our big heart? That seems to be more of a flaw these days than an asset.

With all that being said, we have had 5 additional cats get dumped in the last month that are still running at large and last evening a litter of 6 kittens were just thrown out by our door. We simply cannot financially or physically handle any more.

So what's one more? It's going to be the breaking point.

This little girl was found in the middle of 309 during a torrential downpour. She fought 5 lanes of traffic and the bipolar Ohio weather only to be snatched up by a white woman in a Subaru. Just kidding, it was a truck. 🀣

She will be looking for her forever family in a week or two after she gets her vaccines and dewormed.

If your home has a spot open for this side eye slinging diva .... Message us or stop by today!
