Ohio SPCA & Humane Society

Ohio SPCA & Humane Society The Ohio SPCA & Humane Society is a 501(c)3 organization that is funded solely by donations, grants, and bequests.

The HSOAC is now under the management of the Ohio SPCA. After struggling to serve the needs of the animals and the community for the past several years, the former Board of Directors of the Humane Society of Allen County made the decision to turn over the operation and functions of the humane society to the Ohio SPCA. This decision was based on the belief that the Ohio SPCA was the right organizat

ion to take the humane society into the future. Over the course of the next several months the humane society will be restructured during a transition period with many changes taking place. The mission of the humane society will be fulfilled with existing programs being strengthened and expanded and new programs being added. The Ohio SPCA is dedicated to helping animals through the education of adults and children, the elimination of overpopulation, and enforcing zero tolerance of animal cruelty. The Ohio SPCA has already trained four humane officers to respond to reports of animal abuse and neglect and enforce animal cruelty laws under the Ohio Revised Code. The Ohio SPCA will continue to rescue animals across the state, but Allen County animals and residents will receive help through county priority programs. It is our vision that the animal shelter become a family destination for people from everywhere to connect with animals of all kinds. As goals are reached, we believe that Allen County will become a shining star and the best place for animals in the State of Ohio.

🕊️Tiger Lily 🕊️
Not all days are good days here at the humane society. The last few weeks have been tough and a lot of hard moments. We have had several sick and injured animals come our way daily. A few days ago we had Tiger Lily brought to us. She was very emaciated, pale, dehydrated, and just sickly. Tiger Lily had a very noticeable ear tip which typically indicates she was spayed. Which made for bigger worries to why her abdomen was so large and pregnant like. The doctor was initially concerned about FIP. An ultrasound was performed and determined she was indeed pregnant. The doctor suspected she had several kittens in there. We took her back to the shelter to monitor her since she was due anytime . She started labor 24 hours later. Tiger Lily had two kittens without issue. But then nothing happened. We consulted the doctor and she was given several doses of oxytocin and still nothing. So our medical staff took her back into the clinic for another consult and X-rays / ultrasound. It was determined she still had 4 kittens and THREE bullets in her spine area (suspected old injury). The doctor was baffled and worried her overall condition would make the odds of her surviving a c-section very small. We couldn’t see putting her through that and still not make it. We discussed with the doctor and elected humane euthanasia. The kittens were put in foster care. Tiger Lily is one of so many cases the last few days. It has been exhausting, financially stressing, and a lot of tears. We love the days of “puppies and kittens” , but the reality is those days are far and few. Our staff and volunteers work day in and out to help so many animals. Without them and the support of you all we couldn’t help as many animals as we do. We wanted share a small glance into what we deal with on a daily basis. We wish the outcome for Tiger Lily was different, but she is no longer suffering. If you would like to contribute to our emergency medical funds so we can continue helping animals like Tiger Lily , please visit the link below or donations can be mailed or dropped off at 3606 Elida Road, Lima, Ohio 45807. All donations are tax deductible. Thank you.

Rest Peacefully, Tiger Lily 🌈

🎉Hip Hip Hooray- EVAN HAS FOUND HIS HOME!🎉

Evan came to our shelter in July 2019 and was returned almost 3 years later at no fault of his own. Evan was scared when he first came back and it took him a bit to re-adjust to shelter life. But eventually he did with the love from our staff and our wonderful volunteer Marianna (Evan was/is Marianna's pride and joy). Evan always brought a smile to many faces with his distinctive meow and attention seeking personality. We adored Evan. We knew someone would love him if they gave him a chance. Evan, like many black or brown tabby's cats face a disadvantage at shelters or rescues just because of their "plain look". Did you know many black and brown tabby pet owners reported that these felines are highly intelligent, playful, and unusually affectionate. They are often described as 'lap cats' who love to spend time cuddling with their humans. We are overjoyed that someone saw Evan for Evan and decided to give him a furever home! Though we are going to miss his big personality and morning greeting. We are thrilled for his new journey. Help us celebrate Evan's adoption by posting not only congratulations, but your own rescue brown tabby and black cats below in the comments and how they have impacted your life. We would love to hear about it. Thank you to everyone that helped make Evan's adoption possible. Good luck Mr. Evan. We will miss and love you always! Now go enjoy life!🐾 🎉 🎈🥳 🐈‍⬛

Meet Kaiju, this sweet boy came through our cruelty department recently. He is a husky mix, 2 years old, weighing 60 pounds. An ideal home is one with no cats. He is dog selective, so any dogs in the home must meet Kaiju before adoption. He is good with older kids. A typical husky who likes to talk, is energetic, and well-socialized. Stop in the shelter today to meet Kaiju.

Introducing Ms. Personality AKA Starlight. This chirpy girl is full of sass and personality. She is all about her toys and her food. New environments can be a little scary at first. She prefers to meet her visitors in her condo, where she feels safe. We can understand her hesitation after being removed from an unsuitable living situation. Starlight does great with other cats and people of all ages. She is around 3 years old and is looking forward to meeting you. Stop by the shelter today to meet this beautiful girl.

Meet Jamie. This sweet girl has been at the shelter her entire life. She arrived 4 years ago along with her mom and sister. A new environment will certainly be a big change for her, but she deserves a home and family to call her own. Jamie does great with other cats and would benefit from having a friend at home. She loves people of all ages but is not a fan of being picked up and prefers to be pet on her backside. She is in need of a family who will understand her need for an adjustment period. The shelter life is all she knows. With some patience and time, her true personality will shine through. It just takes one person to make a difference in Jamie’s life. Stop by the shelter today and visit Jamie in Cat 2 room where she will be hanging out with her friends.

Who could resist this sweet face? Meet Ranger. This 1 1/2-year-old cattle mix pup was recently returned to the shelter, due to no fault of his own. Ranger's breed requires an active lifestyle. Walks, playtime, and interactive games would benefit Ranger's physical and mental well-being. It could also help him to bond with his new family. Ranger is good with people of all ages, but does not get along with cats and other small dogs. Could you be the person who gives Ranger the life he deserves? Stop by the shelter today and ask to meet Ranger.

Meet Ms. Holga. This unique-looking girl was an owner surrender last March. Holga is roughly 8 years old and is looking to spend her senior years in a furever home. Recently, Holga attended an adoption event at PETCO and was very friendly and enjoyed the attention. An ideal home for Holga would be one with no other cats, but she does like dogs. Holga likes to bite as play, so we recommend that there are no children in the home. Stop by the shelter today to visit this beautiful girl.

We are located at 3606 Elida Road, Lima. 419-991-1775. Stop by during our open hours Wednesday-Friday 2:00pm-7:00pm, or Saturday noon-4:00pm to meet all our adoptable cats and dogs! Applications can be downloaded on our website, ohiospca.org/adopt, and emailed to [email protected]

Hi! I'm Joyce. I somehow have found myself back at the shelter. You see, I went on a mini field trip in hopes of securing my furever family. It wasn’t a good fit for either party. Some of my feline friends, along with me, need an adjustment period when entering a new environment. It doesn’t mean that we are not friendly and loving. I have lived at the shelter for almost 3 years, so this is all I know. I will probably hide for the first few days I am in your home. I might not eat right away, and don’t want to be picked up immediately. I want to explore my new surroundings, maybe a room at a time. Once I am settled, I will be your new best friend. We will have so much fun. I am 5 years old, and I get along with other cats. I have not been around dogs, but I can be tested. I am up to date on all my vaccines, spayed, and microchipped. You can visit me at the shelter in Cat 1 room. I will be hanging out with my feline friends.

HELP!
URGENT Supplies Needed
We are currently OUT of clay clumping litter. The last few weeks our feline intake has sky rocketed. Between hoarding cases, cruelty, sick or injured, and animals abandoned at our doorstep, we are overwhelmed with needs right now. Currently our biggest needs are clay clumping cat litter and disinfectant bleach. Below is one of several cats we have taken in the last few days. Meet President Snow. This sweet boy was brought to us by a Good Sam when he was found on the side of the road. Presient Snow was weak, dehydrated, starving, covered in fleas, and suffering from puncture wounds to the neck. Our medical staff rushed him to a local veterinary clinic for treatment. The doctor wasn't sure how permanent the damage was. President Snow wasn't able to lift his head at that point. The doctor gave him antibiotics, cleaned his wounds and injected a steroid to reduce inflammation. Our medical staff then took turns taking President Snow home so he could have the best possible outcome. He is back at shelter and eating on his own and now holding his head up and even climbing. We couldn't be happier with his progress. With that being said, we really have gone through more supplies then normal and could use your help. We have included links below or supplies can be dropped off in person. Location for both is 3606 Elida Road, Lima, OH 45807. All donations are tax-deductible. Thank you so much for all your support.

***Clarification: we have an air conditioning system. It still gets humid and warm even with the units running. We ask for people to please be positive with their comments. Bigger older buildings can have Issues and cost thousands of dollars to repair. We apologize If anyone was upset at us for asking for fans. We want to keep our workers and animals comfortable on hot and humid days. We appreciate your support and concerns. Thank you.
🔥It’s hot in here 🔥
Good morning, we desperately need fans to help cool down the shelter. With rising temperatures, it can be difficult to keep all the rooms at a consistent temperature. Unfortunately, the building does not have plugs in every single room.
We are looking at battery operated fans for some of our rooms on the adoption floor. This would be a safer option to avoid having to run cords under a door, which can be a tripping hazard or a danger to the animals . We have included links below. Though any is much appreciated. Thank you so much for all your support. Have a wonderful weekend. 💕
