This week, our Animal Protection Officers received 608 calls for service and issued 221 citations to help keep pets, people, and wildlife safe in our community. 🩷🐾
 
One of those calls involved a group of baby quails trapped inside a drainage area with no way out. When help arrived, one of our officers climbed into the drainage to safely recover them. 🙌
 
The baby quails are now recovering safely with Second Chance Wildlife Rescue, where they’re receiving the care they need. 🐦
 
Calls like these are part of what our field teams encounter every day. Our officers never hesitate to step in when animals are in danger, and this rescue is one of many examples of the dedication they bring into the field each day. 💪
 
While a mere sighting of wildlife does not lead to an agency response, if you encounter wildlife that is acting aggressively toward you, is sick, injured, or is acting abnormally, keep a safe distance and call 311 for assistance.

This is Adeline’s second time being on our at-risk list.🥺
 
She’s been in and out of our care (due to no fault of her own), and despite being the best girl ever, she does not do well in this environment. 💔The loud noises and quick movement are hard on her and make it extremely difficult for her to relax, adding to her stress levels. More than anything, it’s clear that this sweet girl just wants to be back in a home where she belongs. 💗
 
This sweetheart does great around other dogs, but is not the biggest fan of cats. She’s lived in a home with children before, and absolutely loves being brushed and groomed.🐾🫶
 
If you could be this sweet girl’s hero, please come in and meet her.

These are some of our at-risk dogs.

Some are long-timers; some used to run to the front of their kennels when people walked by… and now they barely lift their heads. 💔

But every single one of them is still a good dog. 🥺

The shelter is stressful. Loud. Overwhelming. And for these pups, it’s getting harder and harder to stay hopeful here.

They need the chance to decompress, feel safe, and let their personalities come back out again.

If you’re thinking about adopting, please ask about our at-risk dogs first.❤️‍🩹

Sage and her babies are hoping for a break.🥺

They've been in our care for a couple of weeks, but the shelter is no place for a momma to raise her kittens, and she would really appreciate a little help. 🧡Once her babies are old enough to have their surgery, they can be officially adopted!

Fostering is completely free, and supplies are provided. All that's required to foster is a valid photo ID, live within El Paso County, and be 18 years old or older.

If you have an extra space that you can offer this momma and her little ones, come meet them at 5625 Confetti, open every day 12-6pm. 😺

When Froggy came in, we never expected the turnaround that we’d see in his behavior. This guy wasn’t used to being around people, and was unsure if he could trust anyone.🥺
 
He was scared and shy, but we didn’t give up on him. 
 
We slowly saw him come out of his shell and begin to trust people. Once he was paired with a doggy roommate, he became a completely different dog. ❤️‍🩹
 
Froggy is now more confident, and will even come up to you to ask for pets and love. This guy also does really well around other pups, and gains confidence when he has a furry role model to look up to!🐕💗
 
Froggy can’t wait to go home, come in and meet him at 5001 Fred Wilson, open every day 11am-6pm!🩵💚
