💙🐾 A Farewell Fit for a King — Loki’s New Beginning 🐾💙

On November 28th, 2023, a skinny, scared, and abandoned boy named Loki came through our doors after being left behind in a hotel room. From that day on, he became part of our shelter family — a constant reminder of strength, patience, and hope.

For nearly two years, Loki has waited. He’s watched friends come and go, wagging his tail and offering love to everyone who stopped by, even when he was overlooked time and time again. Through it all, he never gave up — and neither did we. 💖

Now, after 686 days of waiting, Loki’s moment has finally come. His new mama is coming for him on October 13th, ready to give him the home and love he has always deserved. 🏡✨

Loki has touched so many hearts here — volunteers, staff, walkers, and visitors alike. If you have a Loki story, a favorite picture, or a special memory of this gentle soul, we’d love for you to share it below or stop by the shelter to say goodbye in person before he begins his new life.

This isn’t just a goodbye — it’s a celebration of everything he’s overcome and everyone who helped him get here. 🐾❤️

This brave little beauty is a shining example of strength and sweetness all wrapped into one adorable package 😻💖. Eilean may be missing a front paw and have a tiny stump, but don’t let that fool you — she gets around just fine and doesn’t let anything slow her down! 💪🐾✨

She’s as sweet as can be 🍬, full of love and purrs, and her “disability” doesn’t stop her from acting like a normal, playful kitten — climbing, exploring, and chasing toys like a champ! 🧶😺

🌟🐾 A Huge Thank You to Lakeland Rehabilitation & Health Care Center 🐾🌟

We are so grateful to the amazing team from Lakeland Rehabilitation & Health Care Center for coming out to Effingham County Animal Shelter & Control today! 💕

They spent time walking our dogs, giving them the exercise and fresh air they love, and showing our cats some much-needed playtime and affection. 🐶🐱

On top of that, they went above and beyond by collecting so many dog and cat goodies at their facility and bringing them to share with our shelter animals. 🦴🐾🧶

These moments — and these gifts — mean the world to our animals and remind them that they are loved and cared for while they wait for their forever homes. 💖

Harlow is about a year old and weighs about 50-60 lbs. He has already known what it feels like to be let down. 💔 Harlow was dumped in the middle of nowhere, but despite that rough start, this boy just wants one thing: love.

At first, Harlow can be timid, but once he learns to trust you, he’ll melt your heart. He even offers his paw when he wants more affection 🐾💞 – it’s his sweet way of saying, “Please don’t stop loving me.”

We are a no-kill animal control facility servicing Effingham County in Illinois. We pride ourselves on trying to find the perfect match for each of our animals. If your adoption application is approved, we will call you to set up a meet and greet time. Please allow up to one week to process your application.

FOSTERING: we are always in need of fosters for our animals. What does fostering mean? Fostering is when you take home one or more of our animals to live with you for a short time while we work on finding their furever home. If interested in fostering, please fill out the above adoption application, but mark “FOSTER” on the first line.
