🐾💼 TAKE YOUR DOG TO WORK DAY? THESE BOYS ARE READY. 💼🐾

Tomorrow is National Take Your Dog to Work Day, and Jed and Jethro are already preparing their résumés.

Their qualifications?

🐶 Excellent morale boosters
🐶 Professional snack supervisors
🐶 Experts in meeting interruptions
🐶 Will gladly assist with belly rub quality control

At just 3 to 4 months old and already around 40 pounds, these hound boys are expected to be large dogs when fully grown. They may not fit under your desk for long, but they’ll definitely fit into your heart. ❤️

One is an outgoing charmer who believes every face deserves a kiss. 💋

The other is convinced the secret to happiness is belly rubs, naps, snacks, and then more belly rubs. ❤️

These sweet boys are full of personality, curiosity, and puppy joy. They’re growing fast and would love to spend next year’s Take Your Dog to Work Day with families of their own instead of waiting at the shelter.

🐾 IMPORTANT CAT & KITTEN INTAKE UPDATE 🐾

We know this is not the news anyone wants to hear, but at this time, Effingham County Animal Shelter & Control is on an intake hold for cats and kittens.

Kitten season has hit hard, and we are currently at capacity. Our staff and volunteers are doing everything possible to provide proper care for the cats and kittens already in our shelter, but we simply do not have the space or resources to safely take in additional felines right now.

We understand how stressful it can be to find kittens or need to surrender a cat. Please know that this decision was not made lightly. Taking in more animals than we can adequately care for would not be fair to them or the animals already depending on us.

If you have found kittens, please remember that very young kittens are often not orphaned. Mom may be nearby and caring for them. If possible, observe from a distance before moving them.

If you are able to safely foster, temporarily house, or assist a cat in need while searching for placement options, it can make an enormous difference during this overwhelming time of year.

We will post updates as soon as we are able to resume feline intake. Thank you for your patience, understanding, and continued support of the animals in our community. ❤️🐾

🐾 Captain Has a Question… 🐾

Captain spent the day at an event recently and was, by all accounts, the bestest boy. 💙

He smiled for pictures.
He soaked up attention.
He showed everyone what an awesome dog he is.

And then…

Nothing.

No applications.
No inquiries.
No “I’d like to meet Captain.”

So naturally, Captain came to the conclusion that the problem must be his appearance. 🤔

His solution?

Eyebrows.

As you can see, he gave it a try.

Unfortunately, even with his newly enhanced facial expressions, Captain is still waiting.

And honestly? We don’t understand it either.

This handsome goofball is almost 2 years old, loves toys more than just about anything on Earth, and has a heart the size of Texas. He bonds deeply with his people and wants nothing more than a family to call his own.

🐾 Doing great meeting new people
🚫 No small children or cats
🏡 Needs an active home and a strong crate

Captain keeps showing up, putting on his biggest smile, and hoping that this will be the post that finally catches his family’s eye.

The largest of the litter, Dandy is truly a gentle giant. Sweet, calm, and a little reserved, he’s not one to demand attention—but he loves it all the same.

Dandy prefers a quieter approach to life, winning hearts with his soft nature and steady companionship. He’s the kind of kitten who will happily be nearby, soaking up affection and reminding you that the sweetest souls are often the quietest.

💕 Cecelia Has a Confession… 💕

She saw her adoption post.

She checked for applications.

She checked again.

And then she decided the only logical solution was to climb into someone’s lap and pout about it. ❤️

Cecelia is still waiting for her person, and honestly, we’re a little surprised.

This 22-pound sweetheart is a world-class snuggler. Her favorite place in the universe is curled up in a lap, and if you’ll let her, she’ll happily be held like a baby while soaking up every bit of affection you have to offer.

Now, Cecelia isn’t the life-of-the-party type. She’s a sensitive girl who can be anxious when faced with new situations. When she’s nervous, she expresses her feelings with a bark that’s considerably larger than her actual body. 😅 But once she feels safe, her loving personality shines through.

🐾🌾 The Hounds of Beverly Hills… or at least Beverly Hollow! 🌾🐾

Gather ‘round, y’all, and meet Jed and Jethro, two hound pups who look like they just wandered off the set of a backwoods sitcom and straight into our hearts. 💙

🎩 Jed is the smooth-talking charmer of the pair. If there’s a face nearby, he’s probably trying to kiss it.

🛋️ Jethro has simpler goals in life. Belly rubs. More belly rubs. Then maybe a snack. Then more belly rubs.

At just 3-4 months old, these boys are already tipping the scales at around 40 pounds, so they’re likely headed for the “large and in charge” category when fully grown. Think less lap dog and more porch dog supervisor.

And speaking of porches… the boys are proudly showing off one of the amazing dog hangouts built and donated by the talented students at Teutopolis High School. We think Jed and Jethro have already claimed it as their campaign headquarters. 🏡🐾

🌼 Meet Marigold! 🌼

Marigold has a severe case of Pretty Kitty Syndrome, and unfortunately, it appears to be completely justified.

This stunning long-haired calico knows she’s beautiful and carries herself accordingly. She’s bold, playful, and absolutely full of opinions, all of which she is more than happy to share. If you hear an unusually loud little sniff coming from across the room, there’s a good chance Marigold is on her way to investigate your business.

She loves being held and firmly believes that if she’s in your arms, she should also have your full attention. Her favorite way to ensure this? Reaching up with her tiny paws to gently grab your face and make direct eye contact. No scrolling. No distractions. Admire the calico.

Currently ruling her foster home with fluff, charm, and confidence, Marigold is ready to find a furever family of her own. She promises plenty of entertainment, endless affection, and just enough sass to keep life interesting.

🚨🐾 STORM & TORNADO PET UPDATE 🐾🚨

Due to the recent storms and tornadoes, our shelter is currently overwhelmed with animals coming in. We know many beloved pets have become separated from their families, and we want to give owners every opportunity to find them before additional animals are brought into the shelter.

If you find a dog or cat that appears to be lost:

📞 Please contact the shelter first.
📸 Send clear photos through our Facebook Messenger.
📍 Include the exact location where the pet was found.
⏰ If the animal is safe, please allow us time to post and search for the owner before bringing it to the shelter.

Many pets are simply frightened and displaced from the storm and may still be very close to home. Keeping them in the area where they were found often gives families the best chance of being reunited.

If the animal is injured, in danger, or you cannot safely contain it, please let us know when you contact us.

❤️ Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work through this emergency situation. Our staff and volunteers are doing everything possible to help animals and families affected by the storm.

Together, we can help more pets find their way back home.
