🎄 HOLIDAY FOSTER HOMES NEEDED! 🐾
With the holidays approaching quickly, we are looking for foster homes.

Our rescue continues to operate 24/7, is 100% volunteer-run, and is entirely foster-based. Every dog we save depends on someone willing to open their home and give them a safe place to land.

We do have foster applications on file, and we carefully review them every time we are looking for a foster home. Please remember, if you aren't contacted, it doesn't mean we've forgotten about you or are ignoring your application. It simply means your home may not be the right match for the particular dog coming into our care. Every dog's needs are different, and finding the right placement is critical.

What we are currently looking for:
• Foster homes with experience handling German Shepherds.
• Homes with NO other pets.
• Homes without children under 7 (unless we know the incoming dog is a suitable match).
• Fosters who are available for meet-and-greets with potential adopters.
• Homes willing to provide a safe, temporary place for a dog to decompress while we work to find their perfect forever home.

You don't have to make a lifetime commitment to make a lifetime of difference. Sometimes, all a dog needs is a safe place to land while they wait for their forever family. ❤️

❤️ WE CAN’T FORGET ABOUT BIGGIE! ❤️

Biggie is still waiting patiently for her forever home. We first had the pleasure of meeting her back in June, and while so many other dogs we’ve taken in before and after her have found their families, Biggie is still waiting. We truly believe her home is out there somewhere!

Biggie is currently being cared for by the kind person who found her. Unfortunately, her resident dog and Biggie are not friends, so they must always be kept separated.

When Biggie first appeared, she walked right up to her finder. Her finder did everything possible to locate her owner, but after months of searching with no one coming forward, she began to wonder if Biggie may have been dumped after being used for breeding. Her finder has graciously agreed to continue caring for her while we search for the right home.

A little about Biggie:

Biggie is a friendly girl, but we don't know much about her history. We estimate she is around 7 years old, possibly older. She does have some spondylitis near the end of her spine, but she is on medication and doing well.

What does Biggie need?

She needs a quieter home where she can enjoy her golden years surrounded by love.

❤️ A home with NO other pets.
❤️ Older, respectful teenage children are okay.
❤️ A fenced yard where she can relax and enjoy the outdoors.
❤️ Short, leisurely walks rather than strenuous exercise.
❤️ A family or person who will include her in their daily life and give her the companionship she deserves.
❤️ A home without too many stairs, as they may become more difficult for her as she gets older.

Biggie isn't asking for much. She just wants a comfortable place to call home, someone to love, and a family who will see how special she is.

She has waited patiently since June. Let's not let her wait any longer.

❤️ From Rosie to Koda… A Journey of Hope, Patience, and Love.

For those who have followed our rescue journey, and for those who may be new to our page, we want to share this very special girl's story.

Koda (Rosie) came into our rescue program this past April, and what a journey she has had.

We were told she had been found all alone in an apartment building. We don't know much about her past. We aren't sure if she was ever taken for walks, experienced the outside world, or even had the opportunity to simply be a dog. We believe she is somewhere between 2 and 4 years old. Still so young, and deserving of a life filled with love, security, and happiness.

The day we met her, she was terrified. She hid behind the person who had found her. Unfortunately, he wasn't able to keep her, and we were faced with a difficult decision. We could take her in without having a foster or adopter lined up, or she would end up in a shelter. That simply wasn't an option for us.

We knew we would figure something out. Our first priority was making sure she was safe.
We initially boarded her for about two weeks. During that time, we were able to see how she interacted with other dogs in a playgroup and how she was doing outside of her kennel.

We then found her first foster home, where she was around other dogs and began learning to walk on a leash and enjoy running in a yard. But we knew she still needed more.

We thought perhaps a quieter home would be better suited for her, but unfortunately, that wasn't the right fit either.
One of our rescue members stepped up and offered to foster her so we could better understand what she needed. It was in this home that we started noticing some unusual behaviors.

She would back herself into a corner and simply watch the people in the room. It was almost as if she didn't want anyone approaching her from behind. She would even sleep in a closet.

She didn't seem to understand what treats were or how to play with toys. We were left wondering what her life had been like before coming to us. What had she experienced? What had she been missing?

This foster home was very active, and with an expecting mama dog coming into the home, we knew another move would be necessary.

Her next foster home turned out to be a wonderful place for her. They took her on walks, although she always seemed focused on finding her way back home. After a few weeks, we received an application from a family interested in fostering with the intention of adopting her.
For approximately two months, we watched her journey continue. With every home, we learned a little more about this special girl. Unfortunately, circumstances changed for that family, and they were no longer able to move forward with her adoption.

Once again, we found ourselves searching for the right place for her.
With time running out, we posted her story again. This time, we weren't looking for just any foster. We needed someone with patience, understanding, and the willingness to give her whatever time she needed to decompress, feel safe, and learn to trust.

And then came the application that changed everything.
We made the call and were absolutely blown away when the family told us they had seen her post and knew they could help her.
But they had one request…
They didn't want to foster her. They wanted to ADOPT her! ❤️

We were surprised, but more than anything, we were filled with hope.
They decided to give her a new name, Koda, and a brand-new beginning.
This amazing family understands that trust cannot be rushed. They aren't expecting overnight changes, and they aren't putting a timeline on her progress. They are simply giving her the time, patience, and love she needs.

And Koda is making small improvements, which is exactly what we want to see.
Sometimes progress isn't measured in big milestones. Sometimes it's a little more confidence, a little less fear, or simply feeling comfortable enough to relax in a home.
We may never know what Koda's life was like before she came to us. We may never know why she was so afraid of the world around her.
But what we do know is that she has finally found a family who sees her, believes in her, and is willing to let her move at her own pace.
We believe Koda is a wonderful dog. And when she finally feels safe enough to let her personality shine, we know this family is going to have an amazing companion.
To Koda's family, thank you for seeing something special in her and for choosing to give her the one thing she needed most: TIME.
Sometimes rescue isn't about saving a dog and watching them immediately blossom.
Sometimes it's about finding the people who are willing to wait until they do.

Happy new beginning, Koda. Your happily ever after is just beginning. ❤️🐾

🐾 An household ready to share lots of experiences with her. She’s very social and will enjoy going out and spending time with you.
🐾 Confident handlers who will provide structure, guidance, and consistency. She’s got excellent manners and will blossom with good structure.
🐾 A home with children or a respectful male dog. She does extremely well with children of varying ages. And has excellent manners with dogs of any size.
🐾A fenced in yard is good, but not required.
🐱 Cats: she’s met cats briefly, and was unreactive, but respectfully curious.

Dear Friends, Supporters, and Everyone Who Has Been Cheering Me On,
WOW! Where do I even begin? ❤️
What a week I've had! Between my complicated spay, unexpected complications, multiple surgeries, and a stay in the veterinary hospital, I've certainly given everyone a few gray hairs! My medical bills added up quickly, but something truly amazing happened.
So many wonderful people stepped up with donations, positive thoughts, prayers, and messages of encouragement. Thanks to your incredible generosity, Garden State German Shepherd Rescue was able to raise enough money to cover my veterinary expenses in a remarkably short time!
I may be a German Shepherd, but even I don't have enough words to express how grateful I am. (And trust me, I have plenty to say!)
I also want everyone to know that life in my foster home is pretty wonderful. I am surrounded by love, spoiled with attention, and getting all the care and encouragement I need while I recover. I have a pretty great human looking out for me, and I couldn't ask for a better place to heal. ❤️
Every prayer, every kind thought, every donation, and every message made a difference. You helped make sure I could get the medical care I needed without the rescue having to face that enormous financial burden alone.

❤️ STEVIE ALMOST DIED-- THIS IS WHY YOUR DONATIONS MATTER SO WE CAN SAVE DOGS LIKE STEVIE! ❤️

First, we want to thank all of our amazing donors. We truly could not do what we do without you. Today, we want to share a real example of what your donations help cover.

Yesterday, we had Stevie scheduled for a spay. The procedure was done by the Humane Society of Ocean City, but when it came time to discharge her, she was not doing well. The veterinary team found blood in her abdomen, and she needed additional surgery and overnight care.

You would think that when something goes wrong during a procedure, the clinic would take responsibility for correcting it without charging the rescue. Unfortunately, that was not our experience.

Our girl also needed to stay at the hospital overnight, from approximately 10 p.m. until 11 a.m. — less than 11 hours.

When we received the call about payment, we were shocked. We were looking at an estimated $1,500–$2,000 for her additional care, not including the original spay fee or the surgery to address the complication.

The total cost turned out to be $2279 for both vets. See posted pictures, of invoices, for specific charges. The ER bill was $1418 and the Humane Society of Ocean City charged $861 for the spay. These are the unexpected expenses that rescues face every day. We make commitments to these animals, and when they need medical attention, we have to find a way to pay the bills.

This is where YOU come in.

Every donation helps us cover spays, emergency surgeries, hospitalization, medications, and so many other expenses that people may never see behind the scenes.

We don’t share this to complain. We share it because we want you to understand just how far your generosity goes and how quickly unexpected medical bills can add up.

🐾❤️ Biggie Is Still Waiting for Her Forever Home! ❤️🐾

While the young ones often get adopted quickly, sweet Biggie is still waiting for someone to give her the loving home she so deserves. 💔🏡

We believe Biggie is around 7 years old, possibly a little older. From what we know, this sweet girl may have been bred many times before she was eventually found as a stray. She deserves to finally know what it feels like to be safe, loved, and cherished. ❤️

Biggie has some arthritis in her hindquarters, but she is on medication that is helping her feel more comfortable. She would love a quiet home where she can relax, enjoy a nice yard, and go on short, leisurely walks. 🌳🐾

Because of her background as a stray and her specific needs, Biggie is looking for a home without children or other pets. She would also do best in a home with minimal stairs, or perhaps a ramp to help her get around more easily.

Biggie may not be a young pup anymore, but she still has so much love to give. She doesn't need a big adventure or a busy household. She just needs someone willing to open their heart and home to a senior girl who deserves a second chance. ❤️

Please don't let Biggie's age keep you from considering her. Older dogs have so much to offer, and sometimes the most rewarding thing we can do is give a deserving soul a soft place to land for the rest of her life. 🐾💗

She is a super sweet, very submissive girl who has had some professional training at a young age. With the right family, continued training, and consistency, Shadow has so much potential to become an amazing lifelong companion! 🏡💕

❤️🐾 STEVIE: THE GERMAN SHEPHERD WHO HAS IT ALL 🐾❤️

Some dogs are special. And then there's Stevie.

Stevie is a 5-year-old German Shepherd with a personality that makes you wonder how you got so lucky to find her. She is gentle, friendly, loving, and just an absolute joy to have around.

I've had the privilege of fostering Stevie, and I honestly can't say enough wonderful things about this girl.

She loves people. She loves attention. She loves being petted. She has such a peaceful, easygoing nature that she can happily hang out and relax, occasionally wandering over for some affection before settling back down again. She's almost cat-like in the best possible way!

And that's what makes her so special.

Not every German Shepherd needs a job every minute of the day. Not every GSD needs constant stimulation, endless activities, or someone to keep them occupied from morning until night. Stevie is proof of that.

She's perfectly content to enjoy the simple things in life: being near her people, getting some love, and just being part of the family.

But don't think she's given up on adventure!

Bring out the hiking shoes, head for the great outdoors, or plan a day of exploring, and Stevie's inner puppy comes shining through. She gets excited, loves sniffing everything along the way, and is ready to join you wherever the day takes you. Rain? No problem! Adventure awaits! 🌲🐾

She's the best of both worlds: a calm, loving companion at home and an enthusiastic adventure buddy whenever you're ready to go.

And underneath that sweet, gentle nature is the protective instinct that makes the German Shepherd so special. Stevie loves her people, and if she ever perceives a serious threat, that protective side can emerge.

In my eyes, Stevie is a rare gem. She has so many of the qualities people hope for in a German Shepherd, wrapped up in one beautiful, loving soul.

I wish I could keep every dog who touches my heart. Stevie is certainly one who makes that difficult. But what matters most is that she finds the right home, where she will be loved, cherished, and appreciated for the incredible dog she is.

Stevie deserves a family who sees her value and realizes that some of the best companions are the ones who have already grown into themselves.
