🌈🐾 Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day 🐾🌈

Today, we remember the beloved pets who may no longer be by our side, but will forever remain in our hearts. ❤️

They gave us unconditional love, countless memories, comforting companionship, and a lifetime of moments we will never forget. Though their paws no longer walk beside us, their paw prints remain forever on our hearts. 🐾

To every family missing a beloved best friend today, we’re thinking of you. May the memories of the love you shared bring comfort, and may you always remember just how deeply they were loved. 🌈❤️

Until we meet again at the Rainbow Bridge. 🐾

With love,
Best Friends Boarding Kennel LLC ❤️

📌 IMPORTANT NOTICE:
I currently have an out-of-town doctor’s appointment scheduled for 10/26. However, I am working to have this appointment rescheduled to 11/02 or 11/06 to better accommodate my husband’s work schedule.

🐾 Now Available at Best Friends Boarding Kennel! 🐾

We're excited to now offer Nutramax Proviable®-DC Digestive Health Supplement for our boarding guests!

This probiotic/prebiotic supplement helps support healthy digestion and restore intestinal balance, which can sometimes be disrupted by boarding, travel, or changes in routine.

If your dog has a sensitive stomach or a history of stress-related diarrhea while boarding, ask us about adding Proviable-DC to their stay to help keep their digestive system happy and healthy.

Owner Information Sheet

COLITIS DURING BOARDING

What is Colitis?

Colitis is inflammation of the large intestine (colon). It is a common condition in boarding dogs and is often triggered by stress, excitement, changes in routine, dietary indiscretion, or occasionally an underlying illness or parasite.

Common Signs

- Frequent bowel movements
- Diarrhea
- Mucus-covered stool
- Bright red blood in the stool
- Straining to defecate
- Increased urgency to go outside
- Otherwise acting normal with a good appetite and normal energy

Why Can It Happen During Boarding?

Even dogs that are comfortable and well cared for may experience temporary stress from:

- Being away from home
- New surroundings
- Different smells, sights, and sounds
- Increased activity and excitement
- Changes in routine

Most cases are mild and resolve within a few days.

How We Care for Your Dog

If your dog develops signs consistent with mild colitis, we will:

- Closely monitor stool quality and frequency.
- Ensure fresh water is always available.
- Watch for signs of dehydration.
- Notify you of any concerning changes.
- Follow any medications or feeding instructions you have provided.

If symptoms worsen or your dog appears ill, we will contact you immediately and, if necessary, seek veterinary care according to the emergency authorization you signed.

When Veterinary Care May Be Needed

Your dog may require veterinary attention if they experience:

- Repeated vomiting
- Severe or persistent diarrhea
- Large amounts of blood in the stool
- Lethargy or weakness
- Refusal to eat or drink
- Fever
- Signs of dehydration
- Symptoms lasting longer than 24–48 hours or worsening rapidly

Preventing Boarding-Related Colitis

If your dog has a history of colitis, we recommend starting a veterinarian-approved probiotic at home 3–5 days before their boarding stay. Continuing the probiotic throughout their stay may help support a healthy digestive system and minimize stress-related diarrhea.

If your dog's colitis is triggered by anxiety or stress, we also encourage you to discuss calming options with your veterinarian before boarding. Your veterinarian may recommend calming supplements, or prescription medications that can help reduce stress during your pet's stay.

Please let us know before check-in if your dog has a history of colitis, stress-related diarrhea, food sensitivities, or gastrointestinal issues. This information allows us to provide the best possible care and closely monitor your pet throughout their stay.

Feeding Recommendations Before Boarding

Please do not switch your dog's food immediately before their boarding stay. Sudden diet changes can upset the digestive system and significantly increase the risk of diarrhea and colitis.

We recommend keeping your pet on their regular diet for at least 7–10 days before boarding. If a food change is necessary, it should be made gradually over several days before your pet's stay.

For the healthiest digestive system, please provide enough of your dog's regular food for the entire boarding stay. Feeding their normal diet helps minimize stomach upset and allows us to maintain the routine they're accustomed to.

After Returning Home

Some dogs may continue having mild loose stools for a day or two after returning home. Continue feeding their normal diet unless otherwise directed by your veterinarian, ensure they have plenty of fresh water, and monitor their bowel movements.

If diarrhea, blood in the stool, vomiting, or lethargy continues after returning home, please contact your veterinarian.

Our Commitment

Your pet's health and comfort are our priority. We monitor every boarding guest closely and will always communicate with you if we notice any changes in your dog's health.

Thank you!
