There are some animals that burst into a room demanding your attention.

And then there are animals like Choco.

New to Mt. Pleasant Animal Shelter, Choco is the kind of cat who quietly slips into your heart before you even realize it.

The world feels a little overwhelming to him right now. New sounds. New people. New surroundings. When the toys come out, he isn't quite sure what to make of them. His first instinct is often to find a place to hide and watch from a safe distance.

But something magical happens when you sit down and give him a chance.

This handsome boy will slowly melt into your lap, leaning into gentle pets and soaking up the comfort and security he's been searching for. In those moments, you can see the cat he's meant to be—a sweet, affectionate soul who simply needs someone patient enough to let him get there.

Because of his sensitive nature, Choco is looking for a quiet home without small children. He needs a family willing to move at his pace and give him the time and space to feel safe.

And then there's the mystery of Choco himself.

His coloring has left our team completely fascinated. We suspect he may be a male tortoiseshell, which is extraordinarily rare. Even if he isn't, his coat is unlike anything we've seen here before. Every time we walk past him, we find ourselves stopping for another look.

Rare coloring aside, what makes Choco truly special isn't what's on the outside.

It's the trust he's beginning to offer, one gentle moment at a time.

🚨 BREAKING NEWS 🚨

Authorities are asking the public to be on the lookout for an escaped muppet, a small horse, or possibly a living teddy bear.

Meet JAX. 🐾

At approximately 1½ years old and already tipping the scales at 80 pounds, Jax is a Bernedoodle who still has some growing left to do. That's right. This is not his final form.

Jax is the kind of dog that makes you immediately want to give him a giant bear hug... assuming you can catch him first. 🏃‍♂️💨

This lovable goofball is playful, friendly, walks beautifully on a leash, and is always ready for his next adventure. He was reported to get along with other dogs, although we haven't tested that ourselves yet.

Now let's address the giant fluffy elephant in the room.

Jax weighs 80 pounds and firmly believes he weighs 8 pounds.

Personal space? Never heard of it.

Boundaries? Sounds made up.

This handsome fellow is all heart, all enthusiasm, and occasionally all four paws at once. Because he doesn't quite understand his size, we're recommending a home with adults or older children (teenagers and up) who won't accidentally find themselves launched into low Earth orbit by an excited greeting.

And while we know apartments are great for many dogs, Jax is not one of them. This guy needs room to stretch those long legs, burn off some energy, and practice being a distinguished gentleman instead of a furry wrecking ball.

The good news? He's smart, affectionate, eager to be with his people, and with a little manners training, he's going to make someone an incredible companion.

If you've ever looked at a giant stuffed animal and thought, "I wish that thing could follow me around the house and occasionally steal my spot on the couch," Jax may be exactly what you're looking for.
