Last week, some of our training dogs took a field trip into town to practice their skills in a real-world environment. Theo, Ginger, Kali, and Snacks had the opportunity to work around everyday distractions while continuing to build confidence, focus, and engagement.

At HHH, we believe training is about more than just teaching commands—it’s about helping dogs learn how to navigate the world calmly and successfully. New sights, sounds, smells, and experiences provide valuable opportunities for growth, allowing dogs to practice making good choices while staying connected to their trainer.

Meet Meg! 💛

Meg is here for a 3 Week Board & Train with us. She’s a 9 year old Golden Retriever who was recently adopted by the Stevenson family. Alongside her new “brother” Atticus, she’ll be working through the program so the two can continue building a strong bond together.

Atticus has previously completed a Board & Train with us, but is back for a refresher and to work alongside Meg as they learn to navigate life together as a team.

Meg is a sweet, spunky older girl with so much life left in her — proof that it’s never too late to teach an old dog new tricks! 🐾

When Meg arrived, she also got a much needed grooming session to help her feel fresh and comfortable before starting her training journey.

While staying with us, Meg has also been transitioned onto a full raw diet along with hip & joint supplements, raw goat milk, and omega oil to help support her overall health, mobility, and quality of life as she ages gracefully. We’re excited to help this girl feel her very best inside and out!

“Why do you only carry ONE kibble brand?”

It’s a question we get often — especially after our recent decision to remove Open Farm from our shelves.

As many of our clients already know, I am a huge advocate for fresh feeding — whether that means raw, gently cooked, air-dried, or freeze-dried nutrition. Biologically, dogs thrive on moisture-rich, minimally processed foods that more closely resemble what their bodies were designed to eat.

But I also understand reality.

Not every family can feed fully raw. Not every dog does well on every format. Convenience, travel, budget, storage, and lifestyle all matter. That is why we still carry dry food options at HHH Canine Lodge & Ranch and Holistic Healthy Hounds.

But we are EXTREMELY selective about it.

The recent removal of Open Farm is actually a perfect example of why.

When a company rapidly expands into massive nationwide retail distribution while claiming sourcing, pricing, manufacturing, and quality standards will remain exactly the same, I start asking questions. Especially when the independent retailers who helped build trust in that brand are left completely out of the conversation.

At the end of the day, I am not interested in stocking products based on popularity, branding, or social media marketing.

I am interested in stocking products I genuinely trust for the long-term health of dogs.

That is why instead of carrying dozens of kibble brands, we intentionally carry ONE kibble company we believe still aligns with our standards: Nature’s Logic.

The three lines we carry are:

• Original Meal Feast
• Distinction
• Distinction Grain-Free

Here’s why they earned shelf space in our store:

✔ Nutrition derived primarily from whole foods instead of massive synthetic vitamin premixes
✔ Higher meat inclusion than many traditional kibbles
✔ No peas, potatoes, or cheap filler ingredients in the Distinction line
✔ Transparent ingredient philosophy
✔ Independent retailer focused
✔ No flashy marketing gimmicks
✔ Options for different dogs and feeding styles

Most kibble companies formulate products around what is cheapest and easiest to manufacture at scale, then add back synthetic vitamins and minerals after processing.

Nature’s Logic took a different approach by focusing on food-first nutrition whenever possible.

Is kibble perfect? No.

Kibble is still a processed product. That is simply the reality of shelf-stable feeding. But if we are going to offer a dry food option, we want one that aligns as closely as possible with our philosophy of species-appropriate nutrition, ingredient transparency, and long-term canine health.

We are not interested in carrying 20 versions of the same thing in different bags with different marketing claims.

We are interested in carrying products we genuinely believe in and would confidently feed our own dogs.

That standard is exactly why we removed Open Farm — and exactly why Nature's Logic remains.

We are not loyal to brands.

We are loyal to dogs.

To Our Clients, Friends, and the Dogs We Care For,

At HHH Canine Lodge & Ranch, every product on our shelves is there for a reason. We do not carry products because they are trendy, heavily marketed, or popular online. We carry products because we believe in them, trust their sourcing, and, most importantly, trust them for the health of your dogs.

After careful consideration, we have decided to discontinue Open Farm products from our store.

Recently, Open Farm expanded into Tractor Supply Co. stores nationwide while continuing to claim they can maintain the same sourcing standards, ingredient quality, and production practices at a much larger scale. What disappointed us most was not simply the expansion itself, but the lack of communication and transparency with the independent retailers who helped build and support their brand from the beginning.

Independent pet stores like ours were the backbone of their growth. We educated clients, stood behind our products, and built trust in the brand before national retail expansion.

As many of you know, I personally handpick every food, treat, supplement, and product we carry. I take that responsibility seriously. In my opinion, companies cannot scale that rapidly, maintain the same sourcing standards, keep prices competitive, and preserve the same level of quality control without some compromise along the way. With Open Farm now reportedly up for sale as well, I no longer feel confident standing behind the brand the way I once did.

And if I would not confidently feed it to my own dogs, I will not continue selling it to yours.

This decision was made with the long-term health of our clients’ dogs in mind — not profits, convenience, or brand recognition.

We are grateful to all of you who continue to trust us, support small businesses, and value transparency, quality, and education over marketing hype. That trust means everything to us.

Thank you for supporting HHH Canine Lodge & Ranch, Holistic Healthy Hounds, and the independent businesses that truly care about the dogs first.
