November is Adopt a Senior Dog Month ❤️🐾

The hardest part about watching a dog grow old isn’t the gray on their face or the way they slow down. It’s knowing that their time is becoming more precious. 💔

And for dogs like Levi, who is around 8 years old, it’s heartbreaking to think that some of those precious years are being spent waiting for someone to choose him.

Levi doesn’t know he’s considered a senior. He doesn’t know that people might pass him by because of his age. All he knows is that he still has so much love to give, so many kisses to share, and so many memories left to make.

He’s a sweet, goofy boy who still has plenty of puppy energy when he’s excited! He loves people, enjoys attention, and does well with other dogs who aren’t too high-energy.

Levi isn’t asking for someone to give him forever. He’s just asking for someone to make the rest of his life feel like forever.

Senior dogs may not have as many years ahead of them, but that doesn’t mean they have any less love to give.

This November, we hope someone looks past Levi’s age and sees what we see every single day: a wonderful dog who deserves to spend his golden years being someone’s whole world. 🐾❤️

There’s a reason Jersey cattle have one of the most devoted followings in the dairy world. 🐄

Jerseys are smaller than most dairy breeds but pound for pound they produce milk with significantly higher butterfat and protein content than larger breeds like Holsteins. That richer milk means more cheese, more butter, and more value per gallon for small-scale dairy operations. 🧀

They’re also generally easier keepers, meaning they tend to maintain body condition on less feed than larger dairy breeds. That efficiency matters a lot heading into winter when feed costs climb. 🙌

Blanketing season is back and so is the question every horse owner debates every October: to blanket or not to blanket? 🐴

Here's what the research actually says. Horses that are blanketed regularly may not develop as thick a natural winter coat because the added warmth signals the body that insulation is less necessary. That means a blanketed horse becomes more dependent on the blanket as winter progresses, not less.

This isn't an argument against blanketing. Clipped horses, senior horses, underweight horses, and horses in wet climates often genuinely need it. But it is an argument for being consistent once you start.

The bigger nutritional connection: horses that are cold burn significantly more calories just to maintain body temperature. Whether you blanket or not, make sure your feed program accounts for the increased energy demand that comes with colder weather. 🙌

✅ Body condition score every horse now, while there's still time to adjust before winter
✅ Check your hay supply and quality, not just quantity. Hay cut late in the season can be lower in digestible energy than you'd expect
✅ Senior horses and hard keepers need extra attention right now. They lose condition faster in cold and regain it slower
