There is nothing we love more than seeing our alums thriving in their forever homes. We recently received the sweetest update on Bear, GSRA Class of 2025! His family shares, "Bear is doing fantastic and loving his big sis Luna (class of 2021)! He brings so much happiness and energy into our home. He has settled into his routine of outings and walks with Luna. He also likes to lay on Luna’s bed and then get some squirrel watching in. He has been home from day one and loving every moment!"

Henry is an active and complete goofball that wants to be part of the pack. He's a 2 years old German Shepherd, crate-trained, travels well, and is eager to find a family who’ll give him love, affection, and stability he deserves. Henry has a heart as big as his goofy grin when he tosses his toys around and makes you laugh. He enjoys walks, playtime, and adventures but also knows how to relax and enjoy quiet moments with his people.

He would thrive in a family that is home or takes him along as he really wants to be part of a pack/family. Henry can be a bit shy at first meeting new people, but once he is comfortable, he is a s affectionate and loyal as can be. He loves playing with other dogs, howeer, is not a fan of cats.

Are you ready for a goofy, loyal, and loving best friend? Henry is your boy!

From our pack to yours-we’re wishing you a holiday season that’s merry, bright, and filled with love and warmth.

This time of year reminds us just how grateful we are for your support in helping GSRA bring so much love and hope to German Shepherds in need.❤

As we head into the holidays, our volunteers will be taking a short break to enjoy time with their families and furbabies, so responses may be a little slower than usual.

We hope this season brings you the same joy and comfort you help bring to our dogs all year long. 🎄

We recently received the sweetest update from Jax’s forever family, and he’s having a very merry first holiday season!

Jax, GSRA Class of 2025, and his family shared these adorable photos of him and his fur-sibling with Santa. His family tells us, "We love him so much and cannot imagine our lives without him!"

Seeing our alums thriving in their forever homes is the greatest gift we could ask for. Thank you to Jax’s family for giving him such a wonderful life!

💦 A big SPLASH of love and personality! 💦

Dory is a striking and affectionate 1-year-old who is guaranteed to keep you laughing—especially when she "bites" at her water instead of lapping it up! This smart, housebroken girl is a quick learner who plays a polite game of fetch (she drops the ball at your feet ready for another throw) and thrives when she has a job to do. Dory is looking for a forever home with a fenced yard and a family who is home often to keep her engaged and consistent in her training.

Dear GSRA Supporters,

Winter is supposed to be a season of warmth, safety, and full bowls.

For Zelda, it was none of those things.

Zelda came to us as a five-year-old owner surrender. She was in shock, anemic, painfully thin at 22 lbs, weak, and exhausted. Her body told a story long before she ever could: hunger, neglect, and a life without consistency or kindness.

And yet… she wagged her tail.

She leaned in gently.
She tried to trust.

That is what rescue looks like.

Zelda is now on a slow, carefully monitored path to recovery. She needs a strict feeding schedule to avoid refeeding syndrome. Short leash walks to rebuild muscle. A quiet space to decompress. Time. Patience. Safety. Things so many dogs take for granted, but that Zelda is experiencing for the first time.

Her story is not rare.
It is not an exception.
It is exactly why we exist.

Every year, we take in dogs like Zelda, dogs whose needs go far beyond food and shelter. They need medical care, parasite treatment, diagnostics, prescription diets, foster support, and ongoing follow-up. They need us to say yes when it would be easier to say no.

That care is only possible because of supporters like you.

When you donate, you are not just helping one dog. You are funding:
• Emergency veterinary care
• Recovery diets and medications
• The time it takes to heal, both body and spirit

This winter, Zelda is warm. She is fed. She is safe.
Because we could step in.

If you are able, please consider making a donation to our Winter Fundraiser today to help us continue this work. Thank you to those who have already donated. So far we have raised $9,545. Zelda’s story is still being written and so are the stories of the dogs who haven’t arrived yet.

Thank you for being part of their second chance. The fundraiser will run from Wednesday, December 3rd to Wednesday, January 7th. Link in the comments to donate.

A very special “Happy Christmas Birthday” wish to our recent graduate Bucky. We hear from his new family that he is living life large and enjoying the holidays with great gusto! They write: "Bucky just celebrated his 1st birthday! His favorite toys are the loudest squeaky balls and he absolutely loves catching frisbees. When he’s not playing with toys you’ll find him romping with his brother Moose. He is full of love and excitement for life, and doesn’t let a missing leg slow him down one bit. We are so thankful GSRA saved his life and that we get to be his forever home. ❤️"
GSRA has been saving at risk shepherds in the Carolinas and Virginia for over three decades.
