Can you foster a dog 🐹for the next two weeks? WE NEED YOU!

These are some of the pups who need TEMPORARY foster homes for the next two weeks while the county performs some necessary maintenance in our dog kennels. You do NOT need to have fostered with us before, but you will need to fill out an application on our website: https://www.volgistics.com/appform/1359108207

APS provides everything you need to foster: All food, medications (if needed), toys, even a crate if you need one! And of course, the pups will bring all the love 💜

Read more about each dog on our website: https://apsofdurham.org/dogs. If they're not listed as currently in foster, they're available! Durham, we need your help, and we know you'll come through for us! Thank you!

Meet Carmen 💕 This sweet girl is doing her best to be brave in a loud, busy shelter, and she’s hoping someone special will come whisk her away to a calm, loving home. Carmen is an independent soul who enjoys affection, cozy spots, and being close to her people. She just needs a gentle, patient family who understands that she takes a little time to feel comfortable — go slow with her and you’ll watch her shine. ✨

Ready to give Carmen the quiet, loving home she deserves? She’s ready to go home! 🐾 Don’t forget through Monday 12/8 our adoption dog fee is only $5. Stop by Monday and meet some amazing dogs!

Meet Yaya, our Foster Friday Pet!
Yaya is a little cutie with a BIG personality! She is shy at first, but once she is comfortable
with you she is play play play. She loves being upside-down more than right-side up 🤣 Her medium size (~45lbs) makes her perfect for any sized
home. She loves playing with her jolly ball and wrestling in the yard with her furry foster
brother. She is super smart and eager to please. Some of her accomplishments are:

🐾 Sleeps through the night in her crate!
🐾 Knows “sit”, “down”, “come”, “stay”, “heel”, and is learning more weekly!
🐾 Walks well on leash and is quick to take care of her “business” outside!

Yaya seeks out affection and loves to play in your lap with her favorite chew toy. She has done extremely well meeting adults on leash, and greeting children from a distance. She is very treat-motivated and adapts easily to new experiences (car rides, bath time, coffee shop,
etc). Her ideal forever home (Kids: 10+, Dogs: slow intros) would provide a commitment to skill-building, plenty of playtime, and the structure she needs to manage her puppy energy, in exchange for a lifetime of love and cuddles. If you are looking for your next adventure-buddy, she’s your girl! To meet Yaya, email:

We have SO many amazing pups 🐹 🐾 right now, we're running out of space! On Monday, we told you about the Holiday Hope Empty the Shelters event sponsored by Bissell Pet Foundation, which allowed us to lower the adoption fees for all our available animals to just $50. BUT WAIT, Y'ALL!

From Friday 12/5 through Monday 12/8, we're lowering the adoption fee for all our available dogs to ONLY $5! Yup, not a typo. (Cat adoption fees will stay at $50 and they're a little grumpy 😾 about it, but they'll forgive us.) We've got a little boy that tips the scales at 9 pounds, and one who comes in at 110! We've got couch potatoes and Olympic athletes (well, if there was an Olympics for dogs, which there totally should be), puffballs and sleek beauties! We know we've got one that will fit your lifestyle.

Come meet a few of these cool canines starting Friday! Check out our website before you drop by and make your holiday list 🎁❄️!

Behold Queen Dory! Very fitting for the dog just named Pet of the Week, right? As POTW, Dory's adoption fee is WAIVED from now through next Tuesday, December 9!

Dory only gets dressed up on very special occasions, and honestly this getup interfered a little with her favorite thing in the world, which is playing fetch. Make sure to check out the last photo for an action shot of this athletic girl!

"I will give you all the excited wiggles when we meet! I'm a very friendly and enthusiastic girl who loves to play and go exploring with my nose. I'm a big girl with a personality to match! Wait, is that a ball in your hand?? You have my full attention! I'm super athletic and would love to find a home with people who like to be active and will take me on their outdoor adventures. Is there a dog park near you? That would be a great place to stretch my legs and play fetch, which is my absolute favorite. I can be a little anxious with other dogs, so neutral dogs with calm energy are best for me, and kids that are a little bit older (8+) because of my size and enthusiasm. I've been at the shelter for a couple months now and everyone is very nice here, but I am definitely longing for people to call my very own. I know you're out there! Come visit me and I'm sure to win you over!"

Check out Dory's online profile for more info and photos: https://www.apsofdurham.org/dogs/dory/

Does Dory sound like a good match for you? Come meet her - we promise she'll make your day!

THIS is Ivy today, rocking her holiday headwear with her BFF! We died laughing at these hams 🤣. (We're also pretty sure they're waiting for treats.)

Today, December 2, is GivingTuesday. Now in its 14th year, it celebrates the individual power of giving so that people can come together as a community and support the causes they care about. So before you scroll, consider this: If every person who sees this today donates just $1, we'd exceed our goal—by a lot!

We can't tell you how happy we are that we got to meet Ivy this year! Nothing feels better than taking care of an animal in need, watching her recover, and seeing her find a loving adopter. She's living her best life with Jessie, and we're incredibly thankful 🙏.

We don't take credit for saving Ivy's life—our supporters did that. That's everyone who donated their time, brought us a bag or two of cat food or dog treats, ordered us something from our wish list, adopted an animal from us, attended one of our fundraisers, or dropped by the shelter and put a few dollars in the donations jar.

If you're already a supporter, thank you, thank you, thank you! If you'd like to become one, today is a great day to do it! Here'she link to donate to our GivingTuesday campaign: https://apsofdurham.donorsupport.co/page/givingtuesday

is TOMORROW! And our story about Ivy 🐹🐾 is nearly complete. (If you've missed anything, just check out our posts from the past few days!)

Yesterday, we told you that one of the vet techs at our emergency veterinary partner, Jessie, stepped up immediately to foster Ivy through her treatment. When the urgent care was complete and Ivy was ready to go home, she was able to do so with a skilled caregiver!

When one of our dedicated fosters cares for an animal through APS, whether for extra medical care or because they'd benefit from a home environment for another reason, APS provides all the supplies needed while they're there. In Ivy's case, that included her food, several medications and ointments, all the materials for changing her bandages, and everything else needed to ensure her continued recovery. We do this so the foster can focus on their daily care and giving them all the TLC they need!

Today, Ivy is a different dog from the sad and hopeful girl we first saw! She's happy, healthy, and loves to play. There's just one more piece of the puzzle ...

Please donate to APS this GivingTuesday so we can save more animals like Ivy!

We'll wrap up tomorrow with the end of Ivy's story (or really, the beginning of her new life) 🐕💜!

Just two more days until ! We're back today to tell you more about Ivy 🐹🐾. (You can go back to our previous posts to read the beginning!)

Ivy was in pretty desperate shape when she arrived at APS, but her eyes were hopeful. We knew she needed urgent care beyond what we could provide, so we rushed her to our emergency vet partner. She got excellent care there, and their team fell in love with her too! 💜

She especially caught the eye of one of their vet techs, Jessie. Ivy reminded her of a beloved pet, and she felt a connection the moment they met. When her critical care was complete, Jessie fostered Ivy for two months, during which time the cost of all her ongoing care was covered by APS. This little girl was now well on her road to recovery 🌈!

Can you donate to APS this GivingTuesday so we can give our animals they care they need and deserve? Every dollar means so much to animals in need in our community! Link to donate: https://apsofdurham.donorsupport.co/page/givingtuesday

And watch this space tomorrow for more about Ivy!
