Meet our pup Foosball! (Yes we are a day late 🤪😬😬)

Looking for the ultimate adventure buddy? Meet Foosball! 🐾

Foosball is a social superstar who loves everyone he meets — people, dogs, and even cats (though he’s still figuring out how to contain his excitement around them!). His foster reports that a simple raised cat paw is enough to send him dramatically flopping backward onto the floor. 😂

This handsome guy has it all: great recall, knows “sit,” is working hard on “down,” and is fantastic on leash. Whether it’s a hike, a trip to the pet store, or a stroll through Home Depot, Foosball is always ready for the next adventure and takes new experiences in stride.

Foosball is crate trained, housetrained, and loves spending time outdoors running and playing. He’d especially enjoy a home with a canine companion to keep him company when his people are away. And while he’s an excellent boy, his future family should know that fuzzy slippers may occasionally be mistaken for toys. 😉

Most of all, Foosball adores his people and is happiest soaking up affection and being part of the action. If you’re looking for a fun, friendly, go-anywhere companion, Foosball might just be your perfect match. ❤️ Ready to meet Foosball? Please fill out an application and email it directly to [email protected].

Meet Lt. Hopper! 🐰 At just 1 year old, this big, soft boy is the definition of friendly. He literally hops right up to greet people and loves getting gentle pets. He’s curious, sweet, and 100% ready to hop on over to be your new best friend.

Hi friends. We really need your help! The dogs we're featuring today are all fantastic, but they're struggling in the shelter and we urgently need to find foster homes or adopters for them. Please help if you can by FOSTERING a dog or SHARING this post to your networks! The last page of this post tells you exactly how to apply and pick up a foster dog. We prefer a two-week commitment at a minimum to give the dogs time to decompress, but longer-term is always appreciated. THANK YOU!

SCUBA: 3-year-old female, medium energy level, 31 lbs.
- Very anxious in the shelter environment but incredibly sweet and loves affection when she feels safe
- Jumpy and mouthy behavior, especially when nervous
- Needs a foster who can help her build her confidence with lots of positive experience
- Kids: Recommend 8+
- Dogs: Nervous to start but friendly; may enjoy a calm canine companion

MARJORY: 5-year-old female, medium-high energy level, 51 lbs.
- Very stressed in kennel but loves spending time with people outside it
- Friendly, smart, and treat-motivated
- Would prefer to be the only pet in the home

- Dogs: Likes other dogs but needs to be the boss (dog intro needed for foster)

FRESH SQUEEZED: 6-year-old female, medium-high energy level, 40 lbs.
- Very anxious in kennel, chewing on gate/door
- Friendly, fun-loving personality; loves people, balls, and peanut butter
- Kids: Recommend 8+ (can be jumpy when excited)
- Dogs: Concerned by large dogs, prefers gentle dogs

TANNER: 2-year-old male, high energy, 65 lbs.
- Size and energy level makes kennel life very difficult for him
- Loves to run -- a fenced yard would be a definite plus for him
- Knows "sit," walks well on leash
- Curious personality, loves to explore, social butterfly when out and about
- Kids: Recommend 10+, can be worried by sudden movements

Check out all these joyful faces, canine and human! (Not to mention one Bull -- we aren't sure who let him in 😆. And a hedgehog -- really!!) Hundreds of members of our APS family came together on a gorgeous morning on Saturday to enjoy the festivities at the 2026 Walk for the Animals, and we want to thank each one who walked, sponsored a walker (or in some cases, many!), bought Draws for Paws raffle tickets, donated to or sponsored the event, and participated in our vendor fair!

As of today, the total raised for APS pets is more than *$106,000*, and gifts are still coming in! As always, we're humbled by your generosity and thrilled that so many people in our community share our love for and dedication to animals.

Seeing so many folks enjoying the day with their pets -- many sporting APS alumni bandannas -- and other family members is incredibly affirming to us. This is what our work is all about! THANK YOU for your trust, compassion, and support. Durham is a very special place to live, and we're grateful that we get to play a vital role in our community.

Our Walk website (link in bio!) will remain live through the end of June. Please help us reach our fundraising goal -- we're so close! Big virtual hugs to you all 🤗! 💙😻🐾🐕

Our Pet of the Week this week is the very endearing, perfectly sized Donkey! (If you've seen "Shrek," it'll all make perfect sense when you meet this guy.) As POTW, his adoption fee is WAIVED through Tuesday, June 9!

This lil' dude did some extra happy prances when we told him! Here's what he had to say 📣:

I am officially ready to be your noble steed! I’m Donkey, and much like my famous green bestie's sidekick, I have a signature happy prance and a smile so big 😁 it takes up my whole face! I might be on the smaller side, but I like to think I’m small but mighty—and by "mighty," I mean I have an endless supply of charm and an absolute heart of gold 💛.

Life with me is all about the fun details! I'm the ultimate plus-one for all your outdoor adventures, whether we're strolling through the park or checking out a local patio. I ride like a dream in the car and walk politely on my leash, making our outings together a breeze. When we aren't out exploring, you can usually find me in the yard enthusiastically chasing after a tennis ball, showing off my moves, or leaning my whole body against your legs to ensure maximum neck and shoulder rubs (my fave!).

I can be a tad shy when first meeting someone new, but a gentle approach and a kind word are all it takes to make me your instant best friend 💕. Once I know we're pals, I'm incredibly sociable and friendly with everyone I meet, and I'd do wonderfully in a home with gentle kids who want a loyal buddy. If you're looking for a sweet, fun-loving partner to join you on walks and then curl up together at the end of the day, I'm ready to start our happily ever after! Wait — are those WAFFLES??

Need your own spirited sidekick? Come meet Donkey today!
