APS of Durham is an open admission shelter, and cares for more than 5,000 animals each year. The adoption package at APS is all-inclusive - your new pet will come home with a basic medical exam, spay/neuter (dogs, cats and rabbits), vaccines, a microchip (dogs and cats) and lots of love from our staff and volunteers. This week our Pet of the Week is Roquefort, named for the king of blue Cheeses because he is truly regal!
Roquefort is incredibly friendly, playful, and confident--an absolute gem! He loves meeting new people and charms them with some affectionate headbutts and sweet meows. He purrs like a motor and loves to give little cat massages every day. He is content to sleep near you if you are busy with something but will excitedly follow you around your home when you are up and about. He has enough personality to fill a home and would love a chance to prove it. Roquefort would do well with someone who can provide a low-stress environment and be attentive to his health and social needs. In return, he will be a wholeheartedly loving companion.

Roquefort has tested positive for the Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV). This virus can suppress his immune system, potentially making him more susceptible to other infections. The disease can be transmissible to other cats, but not to people or other species. Ideally, FeLV-positive cats should either live with other cats that have tested positive for FeLV to reduce the risk of spreading the disease or in a single cat household. Thank you for considering opening your heart and home to such a sweet and wonderful as Roquefort.

🏃🏻🐕 Out and About at Bull City Run Club June 18th
* Part of Bull City Run Club? Want to stop by the store and grab some new sneakers? APS will be there from 5:30-7:30 with adoptable dogs, showing off their happy tails and looking for their forever homes. Can’t wait to see you there!

🤍🐾 Juneteenth Celebration Festival at June 21
* Join us as we celebrate Juneteenth at Spectacular Magazine’s 20th annual Juneteenth Celebration! APS will be there with our information table, merchandise, and adoptable dogs for participants to meet and greet.

🍻🐶 Community Tails at June 24th.
* Join APS at Pour Taproom for our Community Tails education event series! This series of events will help educate pet owners on key topics related to their pets’ health, behavior, and overall well-being.

🦮🏡 Family Farm Animal Day at June 28th.
* Join us at Duke Homestead for a day of visiting with animals, living history demonstrations, hands-on activities, kids crafts, coloring pages, vendors, and more! APS will be there with our education table and some adoptable dogs to meet and greet!

Meet our Pet of the Week, Roz!!
“I can tell that 2025 is going to be the Year of Roz! I’m as sweet and enthusiastic as can be! I’m slightly hard of hearing and the good news is that I don’t bark much! I love to snuggle, get affection, eat tasty treats, and explore! I’d like to play ball and then settle down for a good nap! I’ll be your bestest new bud! Come meet me today!”

One volunteer let us know that “Roz loves meeting new people and is great about letting us know when she needs a nap! She seems to be neutral on cats, although she’s only seen them out on walks!” 
Kids: 8+ 
Dogs: Possibly dog selective or single dog

Join APS and Triangle Canine Club tomorrow, June 10th at Boxyard RTP from 6pm-8pm for some fun rounds of Dog Bingo!!!
Replace your typical Bingo numbers with dog breeds and play your chance at getting Bingo! Cards will be sold in sleeves and each round will operate like a 50/50 raffle—the winner takes home half the pot, and the other half benefits APS!

We’ll have adoptable dogs on-site to help cheer you on!
This event is kid friendly and pet friendly!

Meet Cj our Friday Foster Feature!! CJ has been doing great in foster care, but he is ready for his final adventure, to settle into a home of his own! If you are looking for a fitness buddy to go on hikes and neighborhood walks with, an assistant to break down boxes and help with your recycling, or a champion snuggler to watch your favorite shows with in the evening, CJ is the guy for you! He loves to learn and is eager to train (so long as yummy treats are provided!). CJ admittedly can be a bit of a klutz—tripping over his own feet while chasing toys and falling off the couch mid-nap—which just adds to his charm. 😊 Although he is an active guy who needs to get out for walks and play time, he settles well in his crate and sleeps through the night in there without a peep. CJ has made great strides since he came to APS as a terrified stray—he’s a sweet, silly boy ready to move into his new home! 🍒 Cherry Tart 🍒 enjoyed a little spa day before her event debut with last night! She had a blast meeting everyone in attendance, furry friends and humans alike. After the run she had a well earned nap.

Cherry Tart is a playful, snuggly sweetheart who’s ALL about fun, friends, and full-body wiggles! In the play yard, she zooms and shines like the happy pup she’s meant to be. And when it’s time to go inside? She’ll pause with the saddest puppy eyes… until you kneel down and offer snuggles — then she leans right in for love ❤️
