Meet Bubs, a 6 year old neutered male feline!

Bubs began straining and spraying, inside and outside of his litter box, while producing very small amounts of bloody urine. Upon examination, his bladder was large and firm and he was unable to express it. Our doctors discovered thy Bubs had an Urethral Obstruction (UO) and was unable to urinate. This is a serious life threatening emergency for our male feline friends!

Our doctors immediately performed a sedated “unblocking” procedure to allow Bubs to urinate. A urinary catheter was placed and Bubs began his stay with us. After 2 days, we removed his urinary catheter, and Bubs was able to urinate on his own again! Bubs was quite the character during his time in the hospital and was definitely a staff favorite with his goofy tendencies.

An UO occurs when there is inflammation or a physical obstruction in the urethra preventing the pet from being able to urinate. The condition is commonly referred to as Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease (FLUTD). There are many underlying causes for FLUTD including idiopathic cystitis, crystals/bladder stones and urinary tract infection.

Signs to watch out for at home include straining inside and outside of the litter box, inappropriate urination, blood in the urine, vocalizing, and even inappetence/vomiting.

This week, we want to recognize and thank the incredible veterinary technicians who help make Steamtown Veterinary Center what it is.

Working in emergency veterinary medicine isn’t easy. The long hours, overnight shifts, unpredictable cases, and emotional challenges take a special kind of person. Our technicians show up every day and night, ready to do whatever it takes to help the animals that come through our doors.

From monitoring critical patients and assisting in emergency surgeries to comforting scared pets and supporting their families during difficult moments, our technicians are truly the backbone of our hospital.

As a new hospital, we know how much hard work, dedication, and teamwork it has taken to get us to where we are today. We couldn’t do what we do without each and every one of you.

To our entire veterinary technician team, thank you for your compassion, dedication, and the countless things you do behind the scenes that often go unnoticed. We appreciate you more than you know, and we’re proud to have you as part of the Steamtown family.

Steamtown Veterinary Center is officially open, and as we continue to grow, we’re looking for veterinarians who want to be part of what we’re building in Northeastern Pennsylvania.

We’re a privately owned, 24/7 emergency and urgent care hospital in Dunmore, PA. The response from the community since opening our doors has been incredible, and we’re ready to continue expanding our veterinary team.

We wanted to take a minute to thank everyone for the incredible kindness, patience, and support you’ve shown our team since we opened our doors.

The response from the community has been overwhelming in the best possible way. We know there may be times when our phones are busy or our team is caring for multiple emergencies at once, and we truly appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding as we work to give every patient the attention and care they need.

We also wanted to share an important contact for anyone who needs to send us medical records, lab results, radiographs, or other information for their pet.

What an incredible first 24 hours!

We had an overwhelming response yesterday, and we truly cannot thank everyone enough for the support you showed us on our opening day.

To everyone who came through our doors and trusted us with the care of your pets, thank you! We were able to help over 60 animals in our first 24 hours, and we are incredibly grateful to have the opportunity to be here for our community.

A huge thank you as well to everyone who stopped by with flowers, donations, snacks, food, and other gifts for our team. The support we received from friends, family, local businesses, fellow veterinary professionals, and members of the community meant more to us than we can say.

And to our entire Steamtown Veterinary Center team, thank you for everything you did to make our first day possible and for jumping right into an incredibly busy opening day!

TODAY IS THE DAY!!!

Steamtown Veterinary Center is officially OPEN!

Our doors opened at 7 AM this morning, and from here on out, we will be open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

If your pet is sick, injured, or needs emergency or urgent veterinary care, our team is here and ready to help.

We are incredibly excited to finally be able to serve the pets and families of Northeastern Pennsylvania. Thank you to everyone who has supported us and followed along throughout this entire journey. We truly could not have done it without you.

WE’RE OFFICIALLY OPEN TOMORROW!!!!

After a very long road, Steamtown Veterinary Center will officially open our doors tomorrow!!!

Beginning tomorrow, 08/22/2026, we’ll be here 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

For anyone who is new to our page, Steamtown Veterinary Center is a privately owned veterinary hospital created to provide Northeastern Pennsylvania with emergency veterinary care when your pet is sick, injured, or needs immediate care.

We are not here to replace your regular veterinarian. We’re here to work alongside the amazing general practices in our community by providing emergency and urgent care, hospitalization, surgery, diagnostics, and continued care when your regular veterinarian may not be available.

Our hospital is equipped for:
• Emergency and urgent veterinary care
• 24 hour hospitalization and monitoring
• Emergency and urgent surgery
• Soft tissue surgery
• Dentistry, dental radiographs, and oral surgery
• Digital X-rays
• Ultrasound
• In house laboratory testing
• Oxygen support and critical care
• And more

For now, we will primarily be seeing dogs and cats. We may have veterinarians working who have a special interest or experience in exotic animal medicine. When those doctors are scheduled, we’ll let everyone know that exotic appointments or emergencies may be available during those specific shifts.

At this time, we do not have any exotic focused shifts scheduled, so for now, please consider us a dogs and cats only hospital unless we announce otherwise.

Starting tomorrow, if your pet needs us, we’re here, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Thank you so much for the incredible response today! We can’t thank everyone enough for the support. We had five people answering the phones from noon until 7 PM and still had a hard time keeping up!

We believe we returned all of our voicemails and missed calls, but if you reached out today and didn’t hear back from us, please give us another call tomorrow. We’ll have receptionists answering the phones from 8 AM until 12 PM and will be happy to get you and your pets into our system.

Thank you again for all of the calls, messages, kind words, and support as we get closer to opening. It really means a lot to all of us, and we can’t wait to be here for the community!

Our phones are officially up and running!

While Steamtown Veterinary Center isn’t open just yet, we’ll be in the office until 7 PM tonight and would love to start getting you and your pets into our system.

Give us a call and we can get your basic information set up ahead of time. That way, once we’re open, if you ever need us for an emergency or urgent visit, you’re already in our system and there’s one less thing to worry about.
