We’re excited and incredibly proud to officially introduce ourselves as the owners of Steamtown Veterinary Center, a privately owned veterinary practice.

Hi everyone! We’re Dr. Adam Ryan and Dr. Jessica Sheruda-Ryan. Opening Steamtown Veterinary Center is truly a dream coming true for us. We both grew up here in Northeast PA, met years ago at Scranton Prep, and attended the University of Scranton for undergrad. Each of us then went our own separate ways to become veterinarians with Dr. Jess attending the University of Pennsylvania and Dr. Adam attending Midwestern University. After years of training and experience, we felt called to bring something meaningful back to the community that raised us.

We started Steamtown Veterinary Center because we saw a growing need in our community for affordable, high quality urgent and emergency veterinary care. Too often, families are faced with long wait times, long drives, or limited options during stressful moments. As local veterinarians, we hope to be able to bridge that gap. We wanted to create a place where pets could receive advanced medical and surgical care close to home, delivered with compassion, transparency, and respect for the families who love them.

Steamtown Veterinary Center was built with one goal in mind: to provide affordable and compassionate, high quality urgent, emergency, and surgical care when pets and their families need it most. We believe in treating every patient like our own, supporting families through difficult moments, practicing thoughtful, evidence based medicine, and creating a positive, team focused environment for our staff.

Dr. Jess grew up on a beef cattle farm where her love for animals began. She has a strong background in emergency care. Dr. Adam’s professional interests include surgery and dentistry, with a long standing passion for hands on patient care.

As local veterinarians and small business owners, we are deeply committed to serving this community with integrity, kindness, and excellence. We cannot wait to open our doors and care for your pets.

We have been incredibly grateful for the amount of interest and support Steamtown Veterinary Center has received from our community!

We’ve had many people reaching out about additional positions beyond our current veterinarian openings. We plan to post opportunities for Veterinary Technicians, Technician Assistants, Client Service Representatives, and Kennel Staff closer to our official opening date. Please keep an eye on our page for updates, we’re excited to build an amazing team!

We’ve also received several questions about exotic pet care. At this time, we will not be seeing exotic species, as our focus will be on small animal emergency, urgent care, and surgical services.

We’re Hiring – Emergency/Urgent Care Veterinarian

Steamtown Veterinary Center is seeking a motivated and compassionate Emergency/Urgent Care Veterinarian to join our growing, locally owned hospital in Northeast Pennsylvania.

This position focuses primarily on emergency and urgent care cases, with the opportunity to perform soft tissue surgery for those interested. We are building a modern, community-focused hospital centered around high-quality, affordable emergency and surgical services.

What You’ll Do:
• Diagnose and treat emergency and urgent care cases
• Develop and implement treatment plans
• Perform emergency procedures
• Surgery (optional based on interest)
• Interpret radiographs and basic ultrasound
• Communicate clearly and compassionately with clients
• Work alongside skilled veterinary technicians

Qualifications:
• PA license, DVM or VMD
• Strong communication and decision-making skills
• Team-oriented with ability to work independently
• New graduates welcome

We’re building Steamtown Veterinary Center with one goal in mind: to provide high-quality, compassionate care, including emergency appointments, routine and emergency surgery, and dental procedures, with the long-term goal of being a 24/7 veterinary clinic for our community.
