American dog activity is currently high. American dog ticks are generally the second most common tick we receive at our lab. These ticks are larger than blacklegged deer ticks, making them easier to spot on yourself or pets! While non-deer ticks do not carry or transmit Lyme disease, they can carry other pathogens that are listed which can cause illness in humans and pets.

Our office is closed Today, June 13th - July 5th, as our veterinarian is away for a much needed vacation with family.

In the meantime, Kelly will be available most weekdays between 9 AM and 1 PM to assist with questions and to schedule appointments for after our doctor’s return. Please allow up to 24 hours for a response, as we’re also trying to give her a well-deserved break.

Leptospirosis risk assessment has changed significantly in recent years.

Once considered primarily a concern for large-breed or rural dogs, leptospirosis is now recognized across a much broader range of patients and environments — including small dogs and urban populations.

The 2022 AAHA Canine Vaccination Guidelines identify leptospirosis vaccination as a core recommendation for dogs, reflecting the evolving epidemiology of the disease and its zoonotic potential.
