Some things should NEVER go out of style.

“Yes, ma’am.”
“Yes, sir.”
“Please.”
“Thank you.”
Looking someone in the eye.
Waiting until everyone is seated before eating.
Writing a handwritten thank-you note.
Gentlemen holding doors for ladies.
Offering to help without being asked.

We don’t believe manners are old-fashioned.

We believe they are the outward expression of something much deeper: respect, gratitude, self-control, and consideration for others.

Children are capable of rising to a high standard when we lovingly teach them what that standard is.

At our one-room schoolhouse, we aren’t only teaching children how to read, write, and do mathematics.

We are teaching them how to shake a hand.
How to carry on a conversation.
How to show gratitude.
How to serve others.
How to walk into a room with confidence and leave people better than they found them.

Because education should prepare a child for far more than a test.

We are raising the next generation of ladies and gentlemen.

And yes—we still believe that matters. ❤️

Why do we teach cursive beginning in preschool ?

Because cursive isn’t just handwriting. It’s access.

At The Little Red Schoolhouse, we begin introducing the foundations of cursive in preschool. By second and third grade, our students can read and write cursive fluently.

Why does that matter?

Because some of the most important records of our nation’s founding were written by hand.

The handwritten Constitution of the United States.
The letters of George Washington.
The writings of Thomas Jefferson.
The correspondence of John Adams.
The journals, records, and primary documents that tell the story of America.

And here’s the part we don’t talk about enough:

A generation that cannot read its own historical documents must depend on someone else to interpret them.

That’s where this becomes bigger than penmanship.

Call it historical literacy. Call it civic literacy. I would even argue that preserving our children’s ability to independently read the documents upon which this nation was founded is a matter of national importance.

Not because every child needs to become a historian.

Not because technology is the enemy.

And not because we’re trying to recreate a classroom from 1787.

We teach cursive because an educated American should have the ability to encounter a primary source and examine its words rather than being entirely dependent upon someone else’s interpretation of them.

That’s common-sense education.

Teach children to read.
Teach them to write.
Teach them mathematics.
Teach them history from primary sources.
Teach them to think critically.
And protect their childhood while you do it.

That’s the kind of education we’re restoring across America.

Hi, I’m Dennita, founder of The Little Red Schoolhouse of Virginia and a modern revival of the American one-room schoolhouse.

I’ve helped open more than 30 schoolhouses across America, built around something education should never have lost: mastery of academics, development of the whole child, and a strong foundation of faith.

We’re not simply moving children to the next grade.

We’re teaching them until they master it.

Every morning, our children will stand here.

Little hands over little hearts.
Eyes lifted toward the American flag.
Voices together, reciting the Pledge of Allegiance.

And near their feet, 1776 is set in stone.

That was no accident.

1776 gave language to an extraordinary idea—that our most fundamental rights are not privileges granted by government, but rights “endowed by [our] Creator.”

That matters deeply in a Christian school.

Because we are not simply teaching children how to read, write, calculate, and reason.

We are teaching them what it means to be free—and what freedom will one day require of them.

🇺🇸Liberty requires character.
🇺🇸Self-government requires self-discipline.
🇺🇸Citizenship requires responsibility.
🇺🇸And freedom requires a generation willing to understand it, cherish it, and preserve it.

When they are small, they may only know the words of the Pledge.

Someday, I want them to understand the weight of those words.

🎯I want them to know the stories of those who came before them.
🎯The courage it took to declare independence.
🎯The sacrifices required to secure it.
🎯The failures our nation has had to confront.
🎯And the extraordinary responsibility that comes with inheriting something generations before you struggled to preserve.

Because these children will not remain little forever.

One day, this country will be theirs to lead.

And long before that day comes, I want them grounded in faith, educated in history, disciplined in character, courageous in conviction, and prepared for the responsibility that freedom places upon their shoulders.

That is why we teach them the Pledge.

That is why we teach American history.

And that is why 1776 is not simply displayed at our schoolhouse.

We set it in stone.

Because foundations matter.

And we intend to build theirs well. 🇺🇸

An Open Letter to My Students

My sweet students,

As we begin another year together at The Little Red Schoolhouse, there are so many things I want you to learn—but some of the most important lessons won’t be found in a textbook.

I want you to learn how to work hard. I want you to know the satisfaction of finishing something you started, doing a job well, and being proud that you gave it your very best.

I want you to have courage when life gets hard. There will be days when things don’t go your way. You’ll make mistakes. We all do. But I want you to learn to stand back up, dust yourself off, and try again.

I want you to become little problem solvers. When something isn’t working, don’t give up—stop, think, and ask, “What can I do differently?”

I want you to dream big dreams. I want you to build, grow, create, start little businesses, care for animals, get your hands dirty, and discover that with hard work, perseverance, and a little courage, you are capable of doing wonderful things.

I want you to learn how to lead with kindness and a servant’s heart. Be the child who notices when someone needs help. Hold the door. Share what you have. Look people in the eye. Keep your word. Tell the truth. Be kind when no one is watching.

And more than anything, my sweet children, I want you to know Jesus.

I want you to know His Word, know His love, and know that you can walk with Him every single day of your life. We will pray together, learn together, ask questions together, and talk about what it means to live a life that honors Him.

Because one day, each one of us will stand before Jesus.

And when that day comes, I want you to be ready.

Someday you’ll walk out of our little red schoolhouse for the last time and into a great big world. When you do, I hope you carry these little lessons with you.

Work hard.
Be brave.
Solve problems.
Dream big.
Serve others.
Tell the truth.
Do what is right.
Love people well.

And above all else, love Jesus with your whole heart.

Now come on in, sweet children. We’ve been waiting for you.

We’ve got a beautiful year ahead of us.
