Everyone say hello to Moose. She is about a year old and looking for her forever!
She is a border collie mix pup that was born at the shelter. Fully vaccinated, microchip, spayed, seems okay with other dogs if introduced correctly.

Anyone recognize this dog. She is someone’s baby. She is contained but need to find owners. Should be missing from around S Walnut and St Hwy AF area.

SPOTLIGHT:  HATCH, she is a beautiful, sweet girl. She was found at the hatchery in Dexter, very skinny/under weight. She has came so far thanks to a wonderful tech at Animal Health Center Of Dexter for fostering her!! Hatch started at 32lbs the day she was found, and is now at 48lbs and looking and feeling great! Unfortunately Hatch does have heartworms, but this is treatable! She is looking for a family to love her, feed her and give her a happy life! 🤍❤️🐶🐾

Anyone recognizing this sweet baby? We are trying to locate owners. She was trying to visit the ER at Mercy Hospital this afternoon. Please contact us if you know where she could belong!!

We had a fantastic event today!! We could not have asked for better temperature, a little rain to tamp down the dust would have been nice but it was a great day! There are so many people to thank for making this such a fantastic event! Christ Tucker was right there with Ashton and I planning this entire thing. Dan St Lawrence for all the tips and advice he gave us. The Paws Club for volunteering and manning our poker stops. The American Legion Post 59 for making and serving the yummy lunch. Scott Northern for being our auctioneer. All of our donors for the great items in the auction. We had some awesome monetary donations from Silverline Trailers, Robert’s Repair & Towing and Bank of Advance. We earned $3,288 today and Modern Woodman is matching $2500 for us bringing our Grand Total to $5788!! Thank you again to everyone that helped, donated or participated today. It takes a village to run a shelter well and we have a large and wonderful village!! 💙🐾💙🐾

Our Story

The Dexter Animal Shelter is an extension of the Dexter Police Department. They're responsible for taking dogs off the street and providing them a temporary home at the shelter. There are always new dogs coming into our facility! We believe in Second Chances and when I took over I decided we were going to be a NO KILL SHELTER. The Shelter is primarily ran off of Volunteer Help and Donations from the Public. We are not perfect but we strive to find our animals good loving homes. So Adoptions and Fostering our animals to good homes is our priority.
