Princess is looking for two things: a little support and a lot of love. 👑🐾

After coming to Michigan Humane with an injury to her front leg, Princess has been getting the care she needs and showing us plenty of personality along the way.

Now there are two ways you can be part of what comes next:

National Dog Day is already worth celebrating and a 3X match makes it even BETTER! 🐾❤️

You just met Mona & a few of her besties here at our Mackey Center for animal care in Detroit but they are a small group of all the animals we help thought our organization.

RIGHT NOW, thanks to the generosity of the Abrams Family Foundation, all gifts to Michigan Humane are TRIPLED up to $150,000to help rescue and treat pets in crisis across Detroit.

This means:

Twenty spent months with us after arriving from an overcrowding situation. She was fearful, quiet and very good at finding a hiding spot when visitors came into her colony room.

Then one person decided to stay awhile.

She sat on the floor, offered treats and gave the cats the space to come to her. And for the first time our team had seen, Twenty came out, climbed into her lap and asked for affection.

Twenty chose her person. And her person chose her right back. 🥹

Now she’s home, safe, settled and officially clocked in at the biscuit making factory.

Stories like Twenty’s are a reminder that not every shelter animal will be the first one to greet you. Sometimes, giving them a little extra time is when you get to see something really special.

Thank you to our partners at Purina for helping keep animals like Twenty fed and cared for while they wait for what comes next. 🐾

We LOVE seeing Dog Day Getaways from your point of view!!

Breezy got to trade the shelter for a car ride, fresh air and a day of exploring, while giving us a chance to learn even more about who he is outside the shelter.

We learned one thing pretty quickly: Breezy is firmly convinced he is lap dog sized. His attempt to get a little closer for cuddles during the car ride proved one seatbelt was no match for Breezy’s cuddle determination.

Dog Day Getaways are available while our shelters are open, whether you have a couple of hours or a whole afternoon. We’ll help set you up with the supplies you need for your outing, too.

Every getaway gives a dog time outside the shelter, helps our team learn more about them and gives potential adopters another chance to see who they are beyond the kennel.

Sometimes the right friend finds you when you need them most. ❤️

Last December, Pluto lost his best friend, Ruby.

Six months later, his family was introduced to DAS, a dog at Dallas Animal Services who needed somewhere to go. One look at those eyes was enough. DAS made the trip from Dallas and found a new life waiting alongside Pluto.

These days, the two have settled into their own routines. DAS is fascinated by the neighborhood bunnies and learning that “leave it” does, in fact, apply to them. Pluto remains devoted to his favorite ball, Wilson, while maintaining an impressive career as a world class counter surfer.

And both agree that their friend Robert, who takes them on two mile walks every day, is one of the best humans around.

Two dogs with very different stories who somehow ended up exactly where they needed to be. 🐾
