Adoption Update! Marty, formerly MDOT, arrived at Michigan Humane in January. He had been hit by a car as a young puppy and had healed fractures on both of his left rear legs. He was also very fearful. Marty received medical and behavioral support while in our care before being adopted a month later by some of our very own volunteers! Here is Marty now with his family. ❤️

National Volunteer Month is still going strong at Michigan Humane! Today, we’re recognizing Flicia, a constant presence at our Mackey Center for Animal Care in Detroit. She takes great care of our feline population, tending to each cat room in the shelter with positivity and love. She’s also a dedicated foster parent and always has a great attitude. She takes on so many roles and is such an asset to the shelter and animal community. Thank you for your 6 years of service, Flicia!

Last week, three bottle kittens were found inside a trash bag in an abandoned home. Our Field Services team rescued them and brought them to the shelter. Within hours, they were in a foster home, where they'll stay until they're old and healthy enough for adoption. Thanks to our incredible foster volunteers, these kittens and many others are getting a second chance.

Dog Day Getaways are a win-win for everyone! They give our shelter dogs much-needed time out of the kennel and give us valuable information for adopters. Frida recently went on a Dog Day Getaway, and this is what her handler had to say:

“Frida was such an amazing dog. We are so happy we got to take her out today. She's so gentle, sweet and loving, beyond well-behaved and well-mannered. She does well in the car and on the leash and even knows tricks (sit and paw). Her tail never stopped wagging, and she adored my kids. She was so easygoing and friendly. What a good girl! I seriously cannot compliment her enough. Whoever adopts her will have such an incredible companion.”
