Where did the time go? One whole year of Junie! 🥹

We decided to foster this Malinois/Poodle mix from A Friend of Jack thinking, “Oooof, this is going to be rough.” But boy, were we wrong. There hasn’t been a single day without laughter since this ridiculous creature joined the fam. She fit right in.

She’s ready to roll at any second, loves to work, and gives 150% to everything she does. She’s impulsive, quick to act, and exists at 100mph. Pretty much the exact opposite of Hadley. Who is slow, steady, and thoughtful. It’s been a learning curve, but honestly the best change of pace. And the two of them go together pretty perfectly.

Junie is pure energy, but her absolute favorite thing in the world is pleasing us and just being involved in whatever we’re doing. She’s sweet as can be and finds fun anywhere she goes. It’s kinda impossible not to fall in love with her magical ways.

I’ve always wanted a dog with a beard. And this one’s pretty great. She has challenged us as owners and trainers in the best ways possible and I’m so proud of how far she’s come in just a year. We feel so lucky she’s ours. ❤️

Every puppy owner I’ve met has a similar goal: raise a well-rounded dog who is a true companion. Sounds great, right?

But… how do we actually get there?

So many puppy owners struggle with a dog who is completely tuned out and far more interested in the rest of the world than in them. Even when you’re giving them all the things: toys, adventures, cuddles, attention. What gives?!

If your puppy tunes you out the second life gets interesting, it’s usually less of an obedience issue and more of a relevancy issue. If you want your pup looking and listening to you, you have to build up your value.

Here are my favorite ways to start doing that:
• Manage indoor freedom (hello drag line and tether time!)
• Build an off switch (the crate is your best friend here) • Be the keeper of good things (earn the good stuff)
• Ask for check-ins (sprinkle these throughout the day and reward heavily)
• Aim for neutrality outside (skip the frantic meet-and-greets and focus on your 1:1 bond)

It takes a few intentional tweaks, but it’s SO worth it when your dog naturally chooses to look to you for direction in a noisy world. No better feeling if you ask me 😎

By far my favorite part of our Pack Walks is watching owners seeing just how far they’ve come in their training journey.

Sometimes it takes stepping into a more intimidating scenario to really see how much progress your dog has made. And seeing all that hard work in action fills my cup every single time. The consistency everyone puts in at home is the real key to all of this.

It’s the best feeling getting to practice real-world focus in a safe space with such a supportive community. So incredibly proud of this crew 🥹❤️

Anxiety in dogs stems from a lot of different things, but after working with tons of anxious dogs (and loving my own!), I notice these same patterns over and over. It looks different for every dog, but the root is the same.

If you read these slides thinking “oooooh…” join the club. 😅

But here’s the truth: your dog is just telling you they need help navigating the world. It doesn’t always have to be this way. They need you to show up and guide them to the other side of that overwhelm. It is 100% possible to build their resilience and reduce their anxiety, but they need you to get there.

The good news? Small, intentional changes make all the difference. And you’ll both feel better for it. 🫶
