🐾 Dog training isn’t just for Mom and Dad! ❤️

One of my favorite parts of training is watching the whole family get involved—including the kids!

When we teach children how to appropriately communicate with their dogs, we’re giving them more than a few commands to practice. We’re helping them build a relationship based on trust, consistency, boundaries, and communication.

In this video, you can see this young handler practicing with the family dog. 🐶❤️

The goal isn’t for the child to be a professional dog trainer. It’s teaching them how to:
🐾 Give clear commands
🐾 Be consistent
🐾 Understand the importance of boundaries
🐾 Reward good choices
🐾 Build confidence with their dog

And the dog learns something just as important:

The rules and expectations don’t only come from Mom or Dad.

Dogs are part of our families, and they need to learn how to communicate with and listen to the appropriate members of the household.

Of course, children should always be supervised by an adult and given age-appropriate responsibilities. Safety comes first!

But when done correctly, involving kids in training can create an incredible bond between them and their dog. ❤️

Because my goal isn’t just to train your dog…

It’s to teach your family how to communicate with your dog so the training continues long after I leave. 🐾

And watching a child gain confidence while their dog learns to trust and listen to them?

That’s a win for everyone. ❤️

Absolutely — here’s a tighter version that keeps the emotional story and the important training message while staying under 2,200 characters:

🐾 THIS is what progress looks like. ❤️

These two girls had gotten into a couple of fights while at their campground, specifically when they were in closer proximity. The interesting part? None of this behavior was happening at home—it was happening in the campground environment.

Their owners reached out to me feeling desperate. They were even contemplating rehoming one of them, believing this situation might not be fixable. 💔

So instead of training somewhere else, we brought the training right to the campground, where the challenges were actually happening.

And look at them now! 🥹🐾

Are they perfect? No. And that’s not the goal.

The goal is communication, responsiveness, impulse control, and learning to make better choices.

When I ask for “Wait,” they are learning to stop, hold their position, and listen instead of immediately reacting to what’s happening around them.

When I give another command, they are learning to hear me, process what I’m asking, and respond—even with distractions around them.

That may seem simple, but in an environment where these two dogs have previously had conflicts, this is HUGE progress.

Training is about teaching dogs:
➡️ To listen to their humans
➡️ To control their impulses
➡️ To respect boundaries
➡️ To disengage from distractions
➡️ To coexist safely

This is also why I believe training should happen where the behavior is actually occurring.

We can practice commands in a quiet living room all day long, but real-life training happens when there are distractions and challenges.

These owners went from wondering if they would have to rehome one of their dogs…

To seeing hope, communication, and progress. ❤️

It’s not about perfection.

It’s about progress. 🐾

🐾 This may not be the most impressive loose-leash walk you’ve ever seen… but to this Mom, it’s EVERYTHING. ❤️

Why?

Because there was a time when walking these two dogs simply wasn’t happening.

One dog was extremely reactive, while the other was very fearful. Trying to manage both dogs on a walk became so overwhelming and difficult that Mom eventually stopped taking them out altogether.

And I think it’s important to remember that progress doesn’t always look like a perfectly executed training session.

Sometimes progress looks like getting back out the front door.
Sometimes it looks like Mom confidently holding both leashes.
Sometimes it looks like two dogs learning how to navigate the world together.
And sometimes, the biggest victory is simply being able to enjoy a daily walk again. 🐕🐕

With the right leash skills, guidance, and consistency, Mom and her dogs are now back outside enjoying their daily walks together. 🙌🏼

Are the walks perfect? No.

But are they happening? YES. ❤️

And that’s the win.

Because dog training isn’t about creating a perfect dog. It’s about giving you and your dog the skills and confidence to live your life together.

For this family, training didn’t just improve their walks…

It gave Mom her walks back. 🥹🐾

This sweet girl and I were being silly giving kisses, striking poses all in good fun.

That balance is where the bond really grows.

Your dog shouldn’t only look to you because you have a treat or because you asked for a command. They should learn that you are their partner—the person they can work with, play with, trust, and enjoy life with. Although they alll Know I’m the Cookie Monster 🤷🏻‍♀️🤭

One of the things I really want you to remember about the “wait” command is that I’m not expecting your dog to stare at you the entire time. 😊

The goal of “wait” is to teach your dog self-control and patience, not necessarily to keep their eyes locked on you.

So if your dog is sitting there in a wait, but watching the birds in the sky, looking around, or taking in what’s happening around them—that’s perfectly okay! 🐦👀
I see you Miss Stella 🤭😍

As long as their body is still holding the wait and they don’t break position until you release them, they are doing exactly what we’re asking.

In fact, I want them to learn that they can notice distractions without feeling like they have to react to them. That’s a huge part of building impulse control and teaching them how to calmly exist in the world. 🐾

Eyes can wander. The body stays in “wait.” That’s the goal! ❤️

Why Your Dog Is Exhausted After Training 🐾

One hour of training may not look like a lot of exercise, but for your dog, that hour can be a huge amount of mental stimulation! 🧠🐶

During our sessions, your dog is constantly thinking, processing information, making choices, learning new behaviors, working through distractions, listening to you, and figuring out what you are asking of them.

That mental work is exhausting!

Think about how you feel after spending an hour completely focused on learning something new—you may not have physically run a mile, but your brain is tired. Dogs experience the same thing.

This is why I often tell my clients not to plan a bunch of activities immediately after a training session. Give your dog time to decompress, relax, drink some water, and take a nice nap. 😴

A successful training session isn’t measured by how much your dog physically moves. It’s measured by how much your dog thinks, learns, and processes.

So if your pup crashes out after our session and crashes on the couch… that’s a good thing! 😂❤️ your welcome 😏🤣

They’ve just put in some serious brain work!

Remember: A tired dog isn’t always a dog who needs more exercise. Sometimes, they simply need time to rest and process what they’ve learned. 🐾 #🐾
