🎆 Happy Canada Day, Ottawa! 🇨🇦
🐾 A note from one dog mom to another, before tonight's fireworks 🐾
This Canada Day, I hope you're finding ways to stay cool today — it is hot out there, and with the heat warning in effect on top of tonight's celebrations, our dogs are dealing with a lot at once.
Panzer will be tucked inside tonight with the blinds drawn and some music on, and I'd gently encourage you to do the same for your pup. Fireworks are beautiful for us, but for a dog's ears (and their sense of a safe, predictable world), they can be genuinely frightening. Add in the heat we've had all day, and it's just not a night to be outside with them.
A few things that help:
🏠 Bring them in well before dark, with ID tags and microchip info double-checked
🎵 Some background noise — TV, music, a fan — softens the booms
🦴 A frozen Kong or a lick mat gives their brain something to focus on
🛋️ A cozy, quiet space they already feel safe in
More dogs go missing on July 1st than almost any other night of the year — often dogs who've never bolted before. So even if yours has always been fine, tonight's a good night to play it safe.
Wishing you all a wonderful (and cool!) Canada Day. Give your pup an extra cuddle from me. 🇨🇦🐕
📌 Attached is a great one-pager from our friends at It Takes A Village Dog Rescue — save it, share it, and keep your crew safe tonight.
🎆 Canada Day fireworks can be beautiful for us… but terrifying and dangerous for dogs.
Even confident dogs can panic, bolt, slip collars, jump fences, or escape through doors when fireworks start. Please don’t wait until the noise begins — plan ahead and keep them safe inside tonight. ❤️🤍
Before dark:
🐾 Bring dogs inside early
🐾 Secure doors, gates & windows
🐾 Make sure ID tags and microchip info are up to date
🐾 Take potty breaks before fireworks begin
During fireworks:
🏡 Keep dogs indoors — even in fenced yards
🎶 Close curtains and use TV, music, or white noise
🛏️ Set up a cozy crate, bed, blanket, or safe room
🧩 Offer frozen Kongs, lick mats, chews, puzzle toys, or snuffle mats
❤️ Stay calm, comforting, and close by if they need you
Please keep them inside tonight. It only takes one scary moment for a dog to go missing.
Share this reminder to help keep more dogs safe this Canada Day. 🇨🇦🐶
