Summer can be one of the hardest times for shelter dogs. While people are busy making vacation plans and enjoying the sunshine, our shelter stays full and many dogs spend way too long in kennels. A foster home can completely change a dog's summer.
Whether it's a long weekend, a few weeks, or the whole season, fostering gives a dog a chance to trade kennel life for couch naps, neighborhood walks, backyard lounging, and the simple comfort of being part of a home.

EGAPL Heart of RI is participating in the Foster 50 Challenge, and we are looking for teachers, school staff, and education families who may have a little Summer flexibility to foster a shelter pet, like Rocky. Fireworks season can be incredibly stressful in a shelter. The noise, the activity, and the unpredictability are a lot for dogs who are already waiting for families. A quiet foster home for even a weekend can help them decompress, rest, and feel safe.

We are obsessed with this guy. Max is a 3 year old, medium sized, mixed breed that is still hoping his people are out there. He is playful, affectionate, and has a great personality.
He gets along well with other dogs and would love a home with another pup for him to play and explore with. Max is neutered, up to date on vaccinations, and more than ready to leave shelter life behind. What he needs most is a chance. After all this time, we would love nothing more than to see Max finally find the home he has been waiting for! 💙🐶

A huge thank you and congratulations to the Cranston West High School CTE - Construction Technology & Welding program and the incredible Class of 2026 graduates! 🎓💙

In the weeks leading up to graduation, these talented students spent their time helping us improve our whelping room, and their hard work made an immediate difference. Just in time for our newest arrivals, mama, Leia, delivered her Star Wars litter on May 29th in a clean, safe, and sanitized space, exactly what every mama and her babies deserve.

Because of their effort, care, and skill, Leia’s 7 beautiful puppies are growing up healthy and strong. That is something truly special, and we are so grateful. 🐾✨

Our community is incredibly lucky to have young people like this stepping into the world. Whatever they choose to build, create, repair, lead, or dream up next, we have no doubt they are going to do amazing things. The future is clearly in very capable hands.

A very special thank you to Ryan Ingerowski and Sue Couto for helping make this wonderful partnership happen. We appreciate you more than you know!

And for everyone already wondering about Leia’s little Jedi crew: the puppies will not be available to be seen until the weekend of July 25th. They are still growing, nursing, and learning how to use the Force… mostly for snacks and naps. 💫🐶

Meet Ronan: a VERY happy, 4 year old, 76lb, mixed breed, ray of absolute sunshine who was actually born right here at our shelter in March of 2022. He was adopted as a puppy and recently found his way back to us in a very unexpected and sad way. We were contacted by animal control in Vermont where Ronan was found running as a stray. Apparently, his original family gave him away. Luckily, his microchip had our information still attached as a fail safe.
Ronan is now back with the people who loved him first, and honestly, we all absolutely adore this big guy. He gets along with other dogs, loves people, and has the kind of joyful personality that makes it very hard not to smile when he's around. He is sweet, social, goofy, and large enough that when he loves you, you will be loved in a very enthusiastic, full contact, 76lb way. Ronan is looking for the right home this time, one where he can finally settle in, be cherished, and live out his best life as the big lovable legend he was clearly always meant to be. He is up to date on vaccinations and has been neutered. PLEASE LIKE, COMMENT, AND SHARE!

Kira is a little over 1.5 years old and is a 50 lb, Shepherd mixed breed pup looking for love in RI. She is quite honestly one of the sweetest dogs you could ever hope to meet and she is going to make an amazing addition to one VERY lucky family.
Her previous owner made the difficult decision to relinquish her because Kira had a little too much freedom and decided the neighborhood chickens were simply way too exciting to ignore. In Kira’s defense, she genuinely thought she was participating in community activities.
But outside of her questionable poultry related decision making, Kira is a love bug . She adores people, gets along wonderfully with other dogs, has lived with children, and has the kind of affectionate personality that makes everyone around her immediately smile. She’s playful, cuddly, goofy, and gives off strong “best friend in a coming of age movie” energy. She will happily join you for adventures all day and then immediately become a giant snuggle bug on the couch at night.
Kira feels like one of those dogs who has been waiting her whole life for someone to say, “You’re home now.” PLEASE HELP US FIND KIRA A FOREVER HOME BY SHARING!

Darby is an adorable, 4 month old, 26lb, male, puppy looking for his forever home. He is still in that magical puppy phase where his hobbies include playing, learning, being cute for no reason, and occasionally acting like his legs were installed five minutes ago.
Darby gets along well with other dogs and was in a foster home with kids, so he has already had some experience with the fun, noise, snacks, and general chaos that come with family life. He is sweet, social, and very, VERY cute. He would love a home ready for all the good puppy stuff: playtime, training, adventures, and snuggles. HELP US FIND DARBY A FOREVER HOME BY SHARING! 🐶💙
