Please join us in welcoming our newest receptionist, Kristin, to the team! 🐾
Kristin brings over 25 years of experience in the pet industry and has a true passion for the special bond between animals and their owners. Her warm personality and wealth of knowledge make her a fantastic addition to our front desk team.
When she’s not greeting clients and their furry companions, Kristin is busy caring for her own pets at home — including two German Shepherds, a cat, two frogs, a gecko, and an Amazon Parrot named Emmet who is pictured below!
We’re thrilled to have her on board — be sure to say hello next time you stop by!

🍂 Seasonal Allergies in Pets: Late Summer Warning Signs

Is your pet scratching more than usual lately?
Late summer and early fall are peak times for environmental allergies in dogs and cats.

Common allergens right now include:
🌾 Grass and w**d pollen
🍁 Ragw**d
🍄 Mold (especially in damp leaves or soil)
🕸️ Dust mites

🐾 Allergy Symptoms to Watch For:

Constant licking or scratching (especially paws and belly)

Red, irritated skin or ears

Watery eyes or sneezing

Chewing on paws or scooting

✅ How to Help Your Pet:

Rinse or wipe paws after outdoor walks

Keep bedding and floors clean

Ask us about allergy-safe treatments (like antihistamines or medicated shampoos)

🐶 Don’t let itching go untreated—chronic allergies can lead to infections or skin damage.

📞 Give us a call if your pet is showing any of these signs—we’re always here to help!

🦴🐾 Arthritis in Pets: What to Watch For 🦴🐾 Just like people, pets can develop arthritis- especially as they age. This joint condition can cause pain, stiffness, and make it harder for your dog or cat to move around comfortably. Common signs include: limping or stiffness, trouble jumping or using stairs, less interest in play or walks, or licking and chewing at joints. Arthritis is typically caused by aging, injury, obesity, or joint issues. While there is no cure, arthritis can be managed, with treatment options like pain relief and joint supplements. If you think your pet may be showing signs of arthritis, we’re here to help. Don’t hesitate to reach out—your pet’s comfort and quality of life are our top priorities. 🐾 🐶🐈

🦠 Leptospirosis: A Hidden Danger for Dogs – and Humans! 🐶👨‍👩‍👧

Did you know the leptospirosis vaccine is considered a core vaccine in our region?

What is Leptospirosis?
It’s a serious bacterial disease spread through the urine of infected dogs and wild animals — including raccoons, skunks, deer, possums, squirrels, and even rabbits🐿️🐇. Even apparently healthy dogs can transmit lepto to other dogs and humans.

Risk Factors Include:
✔️ Being outdoors
✔️ Contact with infected animal urine on ground, sidewalk, or other areas
✔️ Drinking from natural water sources
✔️ Contact with dew in the grass

Because of the serious health risks and how common wildlife exposure is, the lepto vaccine is part of the core vaccine schedule we recommend for all dogs in our area. Lepto is also zoonotic meaning that it can be spread to humans.

📅 Not sure if your dog is protected? Give us a call — we're happy to check their records or get you scheduled!

🐾✨ Judging with Cat-titude! ✨🐾

Dr. Amber recently stepped into the spotlight as a judge at the 4-H Cat Show at the Pottawattamie County Fair — and one of our very own stars, Shadow Brandt, was among the fabulous felines on stage! 😻

Fun fact: Judging this show is a proud tradition at our clinic! 🐱
Dr. Lee judged the 4-H Cat Show for over 10 years, and Dr. Hilderbrand-Keck has also brought her feline expertise to the very same ring in past years.

We’re proud to have such passionate, experienced veterinarians who go above and beyond for our feline friends — both in the clinic and in the show ring!

Let’s Talk About Ticks 🐶🐱🐾

Ticks may be small, but the illnesses they carry—like Lyme disease and Ehrlichiosis—can have a big impact on your pet’s health. Even indoor pets can be at risk during outdoor potty breaks or walks in grassy areas.

The best defense? Consistent, year-round tick prevention.
Whether your pet prefers a chewable, topical, or collar, we can help you choose the best option to keep them safe and healthy.

Because the only thing your pet should bring home is love—not ticks. ❤️

📞 Call us today to get started or refill your prevention!

☀️🐾 Summer's here – let's keep our pups safe in the heat! 🐶💦
Warm weather means more outdoor fun, but it also brings some risks for our furry friends. Dogs can overheat quickly, so it’s important to keep them cool with shade, fresh water, and breaks during playtime.

Also, don’t forget the pavement! If the sidewalk is too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for their paws. Try walking early in the morning or later in the evening when it’s cooler.

If you ever notice heavy panting, weakness, or your pup just isn’t acting like themselves, give us a call — we’re here to help! 💛
