Meet Count Rugen – yes, named after the six-fingered man from The Princess Bride. 👑🐾

Why? Because Count Rugen has polydactyly – a genetic trait that gives cats extra toes. Most cats have 18 toes (5 on each front paw, 4 on each back). Polydactyl cats can have 6, 7, or even more on one paw!

His little "thumb-like" toes make his paws look almost like mittens. 🧤

Polydactyly is harmless, sometimes helpful (better climbing and balance), and always adorable.

Happy Vet Receptionist Week to the voices, the smiles, and the superheroes without capes at Valley View Vet 🐾

Our receptionists are the first hello you hear, the calm in a worried moment, and the ones who juggle phones, schedules, and emotions all at once. They take the tough calls, squeeze in emergencies when they can, and somehow still greet every pet with kindness.

The anesthesia hasn't fully worn off. But the chicken nugget is carrying him through! 🍗🌀💊

Bo just finished surgery at Valley View Vet 🏥🐾 and is currently operating at 12% brain capacity 🧠❓ and 100% snack capacity 🍟🍔. But his owner, Traci, knows just what this sleepy boy needs! 🐶💤🍗👏

Warmer weather = more time outside! ☀️🐾

But leptospirosis is a year-round problem—and now the AVMA recommends the Lepto vaccine as a core vaccine for dogs in our area.

What is Lepto?
A bacterial infection spread through the urine of wildlife like deer, possums, raccoons, and rodents (including rabbits and squirrels). It can live in standing water, mud, puddles—and even morning dew on grass. Dogs get it by drinking or wading through contaminated water.

Why it matters:
Lepto can cause serious kidney and liver failure in dogs. It’s also zoonotic, meaning it can spread to people—through contact with an infected dog’s urine or saliva.

The vaccine:
💉 Initial series: 2 doses, given 3–4 weeks apart
💉 Then a yearly booster
