I was 4 years old when my mother bought a pet shop on 78th and Dodge in Omaha. That is where she began her grooming career and ended up in 1977 creating her own mobile dog grooming service Aarf Mobile Dog Grooming.She was the first mobile service in the metro area! I was 8 years old when I learned to bath and dry dogs. I was 15 when I learned to groom. My Aunt Cheryl who was also taught by my mother taught me that summer break. When I turned 16 she sent me out into the truck and I would go house to house and groom dogs. I can’t imagine doing that these days!! lol!! It really was a skill that I could go anywhere and make a living. It’s what I knew to do and I could do it pretty well. My cousin was also a groomer taught by my mother and I spent many days learning from her a lot my finishing skills. Groomers do not learn like that these days. I’m a dying breed. I will probably leave this earth with a pair of scissors in my hands is what I often joke about. This summer I will have been grooming 45 years. I’ve out lasted them all. I’ve made many wonderful friends and have had the opportunity to love so many dogs. There have been so many dogs along the way I was able to change their experience into a positive one about being groomed. I am proud of my place where dogs can come and be safe and loved. Thank you for trusting me to be the one to be their person who makes them beautiful. To allow me to be the one when you lay with them they feel soft and smell good. I believe my theory has been one that has mattered in so many lives both human and canine.
