Hi friends! Reminding you that feathered and scaly friends need regular checkups too! 🦜🦎🐢

Birds, reptiles, and exotic pets are experts at hiding illness, which means subtle health problems can go unnoticed until they become serious. Routine exams help monitor weight, nutrition, behavior, beak or shell condition, parasites, and overall wellness before issues progress.

As a general guideline:
• Birds should have wellness exams every 6–12 months
• Reptiles and turtles should typically be seen every 6–12 months depending on age and species
• Senior exotic pets or pets with health conditions may need more frequent visits

Preventative care is one of the best ways to help your exotic pets live longer, healthier lives 🩺💚

Tortoise trivia!! Heres a few facts you may not have already known💡

Did you know a tortoise’s shell isn’t just a shell? 🐢
It’s actually part of their skeleton, fused to their ribs and spine. That means their shell isn’t something they can come out of and it’s also sensitive to touch. So while it protects them, it’s still very much a living, growing, and feeling part of their body.

And yes… tortoises can recognize their owners 🥹
Over time, they learn to associate people with routines especially feeding time and can become surprisingly responsive to familiar faces.

Small facts like these are a reminder of how unique and complex our pets are, no matter how quiet or slow they may seem 💛
