🐱✂️ Does trimming your cat’s nails actually damage their bones?
We’ve heard this myth floating around, so Barb is here to set the record straight!
No, properly trimming your cat’s nails does NOT damage their bones! 💛
Just like our fingernails, a cat’s claws have a portion that can safely be trimmed. The important part is knowing WHERE to cut!
🐾 Only trim the sharp tip — Avoid cutting into the quick, the pink area containing blood vessels and nerves.
🐾 Use proper cat nail clippers — This helps make the process quick and comfortable.
🐾 Take your time — If your cat is nervous, it’s perfectly okay to trim just a few nails at a time.
🐾 Keep up with regular trims — Overgrown claws can curl into paw pads, causing pain, infections, and difficulty walking, especially in senior cats.
And here’s something important to remember: Trimming is NOT the same as declawing!
Declawing involves surgically removing the last bone of each affected toe, while a proper nail trim simply shortens the claw without harming the bone.
