Puppy Love Is Waiting For You!

Pups are available on a first come, first meet basis. We are not able to take names or hold puppies. One puppy per family/household. Please do not call the shelter.

Frida and Laken are 2.5 month old German Shorthaired Pointer mix, both female.

If a pup is no longer on the website, they've been adopted. PLEASE NOTE: Beginning 7/2/25, any resident dogs will need to come in for a meet & greet with puppies.

Meet Mav! 🐾

Mav is a handsome Lab mix with a heart as big as his soulful eyes. He’s the ultimate Velcro dog — if you’re looking for a loyal companion who will follow you from the kitchen to the couch (and yes, even to the bathroom!), Mav is your guy.

He can be a little shy at first, but with some time and patience, he warms up and becomes incredibly affectionate. Mav is both smart and curious, with a calm demeanor and just the right dash of playfulness. He loves toys of all kinds and especially enjoys bringing one to the couch to lounge while gazing out the window — making a home with big windows his absolute dream!

Mav walks beautifully on a leash and enjoys his daily strolls, though squirrels (and sometimes cats) can definitely catch his attention. He’s very alert and always has his ears perked for unusual sounds.

Fully potty trained and well-mannered indoors, Mav is a respectful house guest. On occasion, he might “borrow” a slipper or two, but he’ll quickly drop them when asked. He eats two meals a day without any fuss — as long as his human is nearby for comfort and company. Though initially unsure of stairs, he’s already showing confidence after just a day or two.

Mav has not shown any signs of aggression and continues to blossom in a nurturing environment. He would thrive in a calm, loving home where he can stick close to his people and enjoy the simple pleasures of companionship, couch time, and sunny windows.

Mav is 1.10 yrs old and weighs 68 lbs.

The shelter is open Tuesday through Friday from 3:30 PM to 6:30 PM, and on Saturday and Sunday from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM. A meet-and-greet is required for all shelter dogs if you already have a dog. Thank you for considering the adoption of a shelter animal in need!

Hi, I'm Freyja. I'm a strong kitty - but I'm really scared, too

I still remember the day I arrived at Berea ARF – it was cold and I was huddled with my kittens in a cardboard box. I was terrified, and so worried about my babies. A human approached us, but this one didn’t hurt us! She carried us into a nice warm building. They put us in a nice soft bed, gave us food and even helped me care for my babies.

This place was very noisy and scary for me, but I knew what I had to do. I took care of my kittens until they were old enough to find families to love them, and I did! Now it’s my turn but, for me, after all I went through my first year… I don’t want to talk about it. Let’s just say I have some scars you can’t see that make it really hard for me to trust anyone.

In this noisy shelter I’m so stressed and scared that I’m just not myself. But when I’m with someone I trust — just one gentle, patient person — I transform. I’m affectionate. I’m playful. I’m the kitty I wish I could be all the time.

Meet Leo! 🐾
Leo is an adult pit mix with a strong build and an even stronger heart. This sweet boy loves nothing more than playing with his toys—especially a good game of fetch, which is hands-down his favorite activity. He’s got the basics down, too, and already knows commands like “sit” and “drop it.”

Leo can be a little nervous around other dogs, so slow introductions and a patient approach will help him feel more comfortable. If you’re looking for a loyal companion who’s always ready for a game of fetch and some one-on-one playtime, Leo might just be your perfect match.

As part of our mission to keep pets and families together, ARF operates a twice monthly Pet Food Pantry to provide dog and cat food to families in our community in need. Our supplies of DRY CAT FOOD are running very low.

We're holding a Pet Food Donation Drive through August 21st to re-stock our Pantry. Please bring your donations to the shelter, 10015 E. River Rd., any time, and leave in the donation shed. MOST NEEDED is dry cat food, but we can always use canned cat/dog food and dry dog food. Thank you in advance for your support and for helping pets in your community!

Donations can always be shipped directly to the shelter via Chewy or Amazon.

Meet Cookies & Cream – The Sweetest Treat You’ll Ever Take Home! This black-and-white beauty is as charming as her name. She's a perfect blend of classic and irresistible.

Transferred to our shelter in mid-June from an overcrowded facility, 1 year-old Cookies & Cream needed a little TLC. She was treated for fleas, spayed and brought up to date on vaccines. Now, she’s healthy, happy and waiting for someone to fall in love with her signature sweetness.

Though we don’t know how she ended up in the shelter system, one thing is crystal clear: she’s made for companionship. Curious and confident, Cookies & Cream enjoys exploring her surroundings and making new friends — including the feline kind! She’s shown friendly interest in the other cats here and doesn’t mind strolling past their cages with a graceful “hello.”

Volunteers call her a "sweetheart" and for good reason. She doesn't mind being picked up loves being held and likes exploring. If you’ve got arms, she’s ready to curl up in them.

So if you're looking for a new family member who's equal parts loving and confident, come meet Cookies & Cream. She's low-calorie, high-love and 100% adoptable!

Join us on Sunday, September 7th from 9am - 12pm at Berea Animal Rescue to get a fun seasonal digital photo of your pets. You'll have a choice of 3-summer-themed backdrops to choose from. Deck out your doggies, kitties or any pet, in their favorite attire if you'd like, or they can come-as-they-are. More than one pet can be in each photo. Bring the whole family!

Digital photos are $20 each, all proceeds benefit the animals of ARF. You'll get 3-5 digital downloads from a gallery that will be up within a few days; details will be provided. Sponsored by Hazel Eyes Photography.
