"Multiple pets, one home: it sounds ideal. Sometimes it is. Sometimes... it really isn't. π
If your pets are coexisting in tension (avoiding each other, fighting, or one clearly living in fear of the other) that's not 'just how cats/dogs are.' That's a welfare problem worth addressing.
Signs your multi-pet household may need help:
π΄ One pet eats, drinks, or uses the litter box less because of the other
π΄ You hear growling, hissing, or screaming regularly
π΄ A pet is confined to one area of the home to keep the peace
π΄ You've had injuries from pet-to-pet fights
π΄ A pet shows signs of chronic stress (hiding, overgrooming, changes in appetite)
Pets can learn to coexist, and sometimes even bond, with the right guidance. Introductions done correctly make all the difference.
And if the situation is dangerous or causing significant distress, we're here to help you figure out the safest path forward. You shouldn't have to manage this alone. π
