California Adopt-a-Pet Day is today and we're waiving adoption fees! We are one of more than 150 shelters across that state participating in this special campaign to help pets find their forever homes! The ASPCA, in partnership with CalAnimals, is paying your adoption fees to raise awareness of shelter pets and make pet adoptions more affordable! So come by and meet our adorable pets waiting for their forever homes!

All of our pets are already spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. And when you adopt, your pet will go home with a collar, engraved ID tag, and a free vet visit! Applications are accepted in-person only on a first-come, first-served basis.

Meet Bitsy! She is a 3 year old Chihuahua mix who weighs about 11lbs. When meeting new people, Bitsy likes to put on a brave face. She may bark and let you know exactly how she feels about strangers entering her space, but underneath that tough-girl act is a sensitive sweetheart who just needs a little time to feel safe. Once she's comfortable, you'll discover a completely different side of her.

That's when the cuddly, affectionate girl emerges. She loves being close to her people and is more than happy to trade her watchdog duties for snuggles and attention. It's almost as if she spends so much energy pretending to be tough that she's relieved when she can finally let her guard down and just enjoy being loved.

She currently lives with another Terrier/Chihuahua mix named Fern and takes comfort from having a canine friend around. Having a confident companion helps bring out her own confidence. She's opinionated, sassy, and isn't afraid to make her voice heard. But for someone willing to look past the initial barky introduction, there's a soft-hearted, loyal companion waiting underneath. Come meet her!

Meet Gwen! She is a 3 year old shepherd mix who weighs 62lbs. Gwen is the kind of dog who makes you feel like the most important person in the world. This beautiful Shepherd girl has a gentle, affectionate personality and a heart overflowing with love for everyone she meets.

While some dogs are constantly on the go, Gwen is happiest when she's spending quality time with her people. She loves being petted and leans into affection with her whole heart. Give her a good back scratch, and you'll be rewarded with the cutest little tippy-taps as she dances in place with excitement. Spend a few more seconds loving on her, and she'll likely roll all the way over, paws in the air, inviting you to continue with a belly rub.

*UPDATE: Adopted!* Meet Bernard! He is a 5 year old Basset Hound mix who weighs about 50 lbs. Bernard is exactly what you'd hope for in a Basset Hound. He's laid-back, lovable, and just a little bit stubborn. This sweet middle-aged gentleman prefers to take life at his own pace, whether that's enjoying a leisurely stroll, or finding the perfect spot for a nap.

With his easygoing personality, Bernard has a way of winning people over wherever he goes. He's affectionate without being demanding and enjoys spending time with his people, especially if it involves a cozy place to relax nearby. But he gets spurts of energy where he'll gallop across the yard, especially if you call to him! Come in and meet him!

In honor of Memorial Day, Miss Winkles will be closed today in observance. This weekend is a time to pause to honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. Their courage, service, and selflessness will never be forgotten.

As we spend time with loved ones this Memorial Day weekend, we reflect with gratitude on the freedoms we are able to enjoy because of those who gave everything in service to others.

This beautiful statue, established and maintained by the Clovis Veterans Memorial District stands outside our facility in loving memory of military and law enforcement service dogs everywhere, a wonderful tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. From all of us at Miss Winkles, thank you to our fallen heroes and the families who carry their memories every day.

We are incredibly grateful for the opportunity to partner with Beyond The Barracks for Mutts and Muffins, a special program that brings our adoptable dogs together with our military veterans for comfort, connection, and companionship.

Senior husky Kenai and not-quite-adoptable puppy Colby soaked up every bit of love, affection, and attention during their visit. Moments like these mean so much for shelter pets, helping reduce stress, lift their spirits, and remind them what it feels like to simply be loved.

To our veterans: thank you. Your kindness, compassion, and time made a lasting impact on these dogs, and we are truly honored to share these meaningful moments with you. We can't wait to see you in June!

*UPDATE: Adopted!* Meet Freckles! She is a 3 year old French Bulldog Mix who weighs 23 lbs. Freckles is equal parts goofy and lovable! With her big bug eyes, playful personality, and obsession with stuffed toys, she’s always ready to bring some fun into your day. Whether she’s carrying around her favorite plush toy or bouncing around looking for attention, this happy girl loves being part of the action and soaking up affection from her people.

As adorable as she is, she does have some special care needs that her future adopter should be prepared for. Like many French Bulldogs, she is brachycephalic, meaning her short snout makes it harder for her to breathe properly. She will need daily cleaning of her nose wrinkles, eye folds, and tail pocket to keep her comfortable and healthy. She may also benefit from allergy management, fish oil supplements, and veterinary guidance on the best food for her sensitive skin and tummy.

Because French Bulldogs can be prone to medical concerns, her future family should be prepared for potential veterinary expenses and consider pet insurance to help with long-term care. In return, you’ll get a hilarious, affectionate little companion with tons of personality and endless love to give.

Meet Oakley! He is a 2 year old Labrador Retriever mix who weighs 57 lbs. Oakley is the definition of a lovable goofball. He absolutely adores people and gets so excited to meet new friends that he sometimes forgets just how big he is. His favorite way to say hello is throwing his body into yours for a giant hug and showering you with affection. We’re helping him work on his manners so he can keep all that enthusiasm without accidentally knocking anyone over in the process.

Underneath all that excitement is a truly sweet, people-loving dog who just wants to be involved in everything. Oakley recently got to spend some time in the spotlight during a news appearance, and he handled it like a champ, soaking up the attention and charming everyone he met. And we're sure he'd love to meet you too! Come meet him!
