There honestly aren’t many “small” things in the dog world that really get me going. If your pup is loved, cared for, safe, and happy, I’m generally a you-do-you kind of person. 🐾❤️

BUT… retractable leashes? 😬😂

I am genuinely passionate about educating owners on the risks that come with them…not because I’m trying to tell anyone how to raise their dog, but because I’ve seen how quickly something can go wrong when you don’t have immediate control of the dog on the other end of that leash.

Burns, cuts, tangled legs, broken mechanisms, dogs getting too far ahead near traffic or other animals, and from a training standpoint, they literally teach your dog that pulling = more freedom.

So, with nothing but love from your friendly neighborhood corgi lady: ditch the retractable and grab a good old-fashioned 4–6 foot leash. 🙌🏼

Your dog can still sniff. They can still explore. They can still enjoy their walk. You’ll just have a whole lot more control if something unexpected happens.

Today we celebrate the dogs who make our houses messier, our camera rolls fuller, and our lives SO much better. ❤️

From the ones curled up at our feet here at Old Oak, to every Old Oak pup out there living their very best life with their families……we hope you all get a few extra treats, belly rubs, adventures, and snuggles today! 🥰

There really is nothing quite like the love of a dog. They’re our companions, our comedians, our comfort, and without a doubt, part of the family. 🐶🌳

Late summer means lots of adventures outside… but it also means dried grasses and pesky little grass awns/foxtails are everywhere!

These tiny, sharp seeds are designed to travel in one direction, which means once they work their way into your pup’s fur or skin, they can keep moving deeper instead of simply falling back out.

And when you’re a Corgi with short little legs and a fluffy belly basically sweeping the ground everywhere you go… 😂 you’re in the perfect position to pick them up!

🌾 After walks or outdoor play, give your pup a quick check—especially:
🐾 Between the toes & paw pads
👂 In and around the ears
👀 Around the eyes
👃 Around the nose
🩷 Armpits & groin
🍑 That fluffy belly and undercarriage

Keep an eye out for sudden limping, excessive paw licking, head shaking, sneezing, swelling, redness, or a spot that seems unusually painful. If you suspect an awn has worked its way into the skin, ear, eye, or nose, give your veterinarian a call rather than trying to dig around for it yourself.

A quick “Corgi inspection” after outside time only takes a minute and can save your pup a whole lot of trouble. ❤️

Because those adorable little low-riders will happily bulldoze through every w**d, field and patch of tall grass without a single thought about what they’re bringing home!
