Due to high outdoor temperatures and extreme heat warnings, there is a chance your dog’s grooming appointment may be rescheduled to another day

It could reach 100 degrees in the Hudson Valley this week.

It has only reached 100 degrees twice on record during June in Poughkeepsie, which hosts one of the Hudson Valley’s longest-running weather stations. It’s possible that this threshold for extreme heat will be reached this week — on Tuesday — for the first time since July 2011.

The key ingredients will be in place: a hot air mass, full sun and no clouds, and favorable winds. But one thing could get in the way: recent wet weather, including yet more rain falling early Sunday. Moist grounds increase the amount of energy needed to heat the surface compared to dry ground.

100 or not, it’s going to be hot.

An extreme heat warning is in effect for the Hudson Valley from Sunday through Tuesday, with the National Weather Service writing that heat indices may reach 110 degrees and that the potential for heat-related illnesses is significantly increased.

Triple digit heat will broil areas from Boston to Atlanta, with temperature records expected to fall in major East Coast cities — by day, by night, and in terms of the number of consecutive 100 degree days during the month of June.

➡️ The week ahead

The extreme heat won’t last in the Hudson Valley. Late in the week, the region will be along the periphery of the dome of heat — in the zone where showers and thunderstorms often track. This makes graduation forecasts more uncertain, though things should become clearer during the week.

Monday: sunny with record-breaking temperatures and extreme humidity

Tuesday: chance for 100-degree heat with sizzling sunshine and high humidity, an afternoon breeze developing

Wednesday: remaining hot and humid with a PM shower or thunderstorm possible

Thursday: partly sunny, very warm, and humid with widespread PM showers and storms possible

Friday: cooler with clouds and a chance for showers

Saturday-Sunday: humid with a chance for a shower or thunderstorm on both days

For those planning graduations and parties, the forecast from Friday through Sunday will become clearer throughout the week.

Looking ahead to the week of June 30, high humidity, showers, and thunderstorms are expected to continue along with some hot days.

Stay 🆒 this week! ✌️

Today is National Rescue Dog Day!
This day is observed annually on May 20th. It's a day dedicated to raising awareness about the many dogs in shelters and rescues who are waiting for their forever homes. The day encourages people to consider adopting a rescue dog rather than buying from a breeder.

⭐ Our available dogs are Rosie, Khaleesi, Sunny the puppy and Wednesday the puppy.
If you would like to learn more about any of these pawsome pups, message below or fill out our adoption application:

Reminder when temps are extremely cold in the negatives and teens, I will reschedule your dogs groom appointment. My water lines and other equipment can freeze, crack, and for the safety of your dog and myself it will be rescheduled to another day.
Thank you all and stay warm🩵❄️

This week will be the coldest of winter in the Hudson Valley 🥶

Spring is just… two months away.

A winter storm warning is in effect starting Sunday afternoon. It’ll turn out to be a good, old fashioned snow storm for the area.

➡️ Here’s what you need to know

What? Snow, moderate to heavy at times.

When? Starting between 1 and 4 p.m. Sunday from southwest to northeast. Ending by 4 a.m. Monday.

How much? 4 to 8 inches of powdery snow.

Impact? Roads and sidewalks will become snow-covered on Sunday afternoon. The heaviest snow will fall during the evening, when snow rates could reach an inch per hour and travel will be most treacherous. Temperatures will drop into the single digits early Monday as the storm departs. The powdery nature of the snow will make it easier to clear.

➡️ The week ahead

The rest of the week looks very cold but probably dry in the Hudson Valley. Wintry weather is expected from Texas to the Carolinas on Tuesday and Wednesday, with travel grinding to a halt as a major storm brings snow to places that don’t have plows! Houston, New Orleans, Tallahassee, Charleston, and Myrtle Beach are among the places where significant snow may fall.

It could be the biggest snow storm on record in parts of the Deep South, where snowfall could eclipse half a foot in some places. The deepest snow depths across that part of the country generally happened decades ago, so the event will be unusual and rare.

🥶 Meanwhile, in the Hudson Valley:

Monday: snow ending early; windy and frigid

Tuesday: polar vortex overhead; frigid

Wednesday: polar vortex overhead; coldest day of winter (watching storm to the south)

Thursday: cold again

Friday: remaining chilly

Saturday-Sunday: temperatures moderating further — above freezing at last!

(hey, at least there will be some sun most days!)

Stay warm! 🔥
