💰 Preventive Care: Because An Ounce of Prevention Really IS Worth a Pound of Cure! 🐾

We know…regular wellness exams, bloodwork, f***l testing, vaccines, and parasite prevention can feel like just another expense.

But preventive care can actually save you money in the long run.

🩺 Early detection = simpler treatment
Finding a problem before it becomes serious can sometimes mean less complicated—and less expensive—treatment.

🧪 Routine testing can catch what you can't see
Pets are experts at hiding illness. Bloodwork and f***l testing can uncover problems before your pet is showing obvious signs.

🪱 Parasite prevention is cheaper than treating a parasite problem
Fleas, ticks, heartworms, and intestinal parasites can cause significant health problems and potentially expensive treatments.

⚖️ Keeping your pet at a healthy weight matters, too
Extra weight can contribute to chronic health problems, which can mean more medical care down the road.

❤️ Most importantly, preventive care helps your pet live a longer, healthier life.

And right now, we're making preventive care a little easier on the wallet:

🎉 Get $10 OFF a f***l test when performed with a wellness exam!

Don't wait until your pet is sick to find out something is wrong. Regular wellness care is one of the best investments you can make in your pet's health.

How Did My Pet Get WORMS?!

Your pet doesn't have to eat p**p to get intestinal parasites…although, let's be honest, that certainly doesn't help! 😂💩

Dogs and cats can pick up intestinal parasites in MANY ways:

🐾 Contaminated soil or grass – Parasite eggs and larvae can live in the environment. Pets can pick them up while sniffing, walking, or playing outside.

💩 Other animals' f***s – Even tiny amounts can contain parasite eggs.

👅 Grooming themselves – Pets can accidentally swallow parasite eggs or larvae while licking their paws or fur.

🐭 Eating infected prey – Rodents, rabbits, and other animals can carry certain parasites.

🥩 Raw or undercooked food – Some parasites can be transmitted through contaminated food.

🐶 From mom to puppies or kittens – Some intestinal parasites can be passed from mother to her babies.

🪲 Fleas – Swallowing an infected flea while grooming can lead to tapeworm infection.

And here's the tricky part: you may not know your pet has parasites! Some pets show very few—or even no—obvious signs.

That's why routine f***l testing and year-round parasite prevention are so important. ❤️

💊🐾 What’s in Your Pet’s Medicine Cabinet?

If your pet could raid the medicine cabinet, they probably wouldn’t know the difference between “safe for me” and “VERY BAD IDEA.” 😂

Many medications that are perfectly safe for people can be dangerous—even toxic—to our pets.

🚫 Never give your pet human medication unless your veterinarian has specifically told you to do so.

That includes things like:
• Pain relievers
• Cold & flu medications
• Allergy medications
• Sleep aids
• Anti-diarrheal medications
• Supplements and vitamins

Even medications that are sometimes used in pets can require a different dose than what you would take.

🐶🐱 Before reaching for your medicine cabinet, reach for your phone and call us!

And remember: Keep all medications safely out of your pet’s reach. Curious noses and paws can turn a medicine bottle into an emergency very quickly!

When in doubt, ask your veterinarian first. ❤️

🩸 Why Does My Pet Need Bloodwork?

“Why does my pet need bloodwork? They seem perfectly healthy!”

That’s actually one of the BEST reasons to run bloodwork! 🐶🐱❤️

Pets are experts at hiding illness. By the time we notice changes in drinking, appetite, weight, energy, or behavior, a disease may already be well underway.

Routine bloodwork can help us:
🔬 Detect changes in kidney and liver function
🩸 Check red and white blood cells
🧪 Look for signs of infection or inflammation
💊 Make sure medications are safe for your pet
❤️ Establish a baseline of what is normal for your individual pet
🚨 Catch problems earlier—sometimes before your pet shows any symptoms

Bloodwork is especially important for senior pets and pets taking long-term medications, but establishing a healthy baseline when your pet is young can be incredibly valuable too.

Think of bloodwork as a behind-the-scenes health check. Your pet may look perfectly healthy on the outside while their bloodwork gives us important information about what’s happening on the inside.

🐾 Healthy pets deserve a baseline. Sick pets deserve answers.

Talk with us about whether bloodwork is appropriate for your pet at their next wellness visit! ❤️

🐶 DA2PPVL: What Is It & Why Does My Dog Need It? 💉

You’ve probably heard us recommend the DA2PPVL vaccine, but what exactly is it protecting your dog from? 🤔

This combination vaccine helps protect against several serious and potentially life-threatening diseases:

🦠 D – Distemper: A highly contagious virus that can cause respiratory, gastrointestinal, and neurological disease. Once a dog develops severe neurological signs, distemper is often fatal. There is no specific cure, so prevention through vaccination is extremely important.

🦠 A2 – Adenovirus: Helps protect against infectious canine hepatitis, which can cause serious liver disease.

🦠 P – Parvovirus: A highly contagious virus that can cause severe vomiting, diarrhea, dehydration, and sometimes death—especially in puppies.

🦠 P – Parainfluenza: A respiratory virus that can contribute to infectious respiratory disease, including kennel cough.

🦠 L – Leptospirosis: A bacterial disease that can cause severe kidney and liver damage. It can also be spread from animals to people.

💉 Why is it recommended?

These diseases can be easily spread through the environment or contact with infected animals, and some can be extremely difficult and expensive to treat. Vaccination helps give your dog protection before they’re exposed.

Even dogs that don't spend much time around other dogs can still be exposed to certain diseases—especially leptospirosis, which can be picked up from contaminated soil or water and wildlife.

🐾 Keeping your dog's vaccines current is one of the simplest ways to help protect their health and give them the best chance at a long, happy life!

Have questions about your dog's vaccines? Give Golden Valley Animal Clinic a call—we're happy to help! ❤️🐾
