We rescue slaughter bound and at risk equines and help heal the humans we connect with them. Our equine assisted growth & learning programs focus on veterans and their families. We use horses we have rescued and have not yet been re-homed. Dr. Glenn Albright manages our equine therapy programs.

Thank you for the outpouring of love after the passing of our mustang c**t, Cedar SkyđŸ©” Many of you have asked how his mother, Natalia, is doing.

Shortly after Cedar Sky first left for the clinic, we found her being comforted by another Mustang mare named Salvadora, and her c**t. Horses can’t speak in words, but something was shared in that moment
 a kind of understanding only another mother can offer.

Natalia is staying with the larger herd of Mustang mares and c**ts, where she continues to find companionship and support. We hope this helps her heart as she adjusts to life without her baby.

In both the horse and human world, no mother should ever have to say goodbye to her child.

Every donation received went directly toward Cedar Sky’s fight for life. We could not have given him that chance without all of youđŸ©”đŸ’›đŸ§Ą

We have some heartbreaking news to share about our newest mustang foal, Cedar Sky, who developed a serious infection in his hock and stifle. He also developed an abscess, and over the past several days he underwent multiple procedures to try to relieve the infections and give him every possible chance.

The infection caused significant damage inside his stifle. After an arthroscopic procedure, the veterinary team was able to see the full extent of the deterioration, and there was no path forward for recovery.

Together with our veterinary team, we made the compassionate decision to let him go. The doctors and their staff did everything they could, keeping us informed of his progress every step of thr way.

This is the hardest part of rescue; when such a sweet young soul doesn’t get to run, play, and grow to adulthood.

We’re thrilled to announce that Rupert Isaacson is coming to 13 Hands for a series of clinics starting this October 8th & 9th!

Rupert is an internationally recognized pioneer in the field of neurocognitive equine therapy.

Over two immersive days, Rupert will guide you through classical groundwork and long reining techniques that rehabilitate horses while empowering human clients. This approach blends equine conditioning with neurocognitive care through Rupert’s signature method called Takhin Equine Integration.

There is a 2 night farm stay and welcome dinner available for this clinic.

A few quiet mustang moments from the herd. Every one of these mustangs is safe here at sanctuary, and our little ones will grow up surrounded by the guidance of the herd before some eventually move on to training and finding homes of their own.

We have some news to share about our newest mustang foal, Cedar Sky, born to Mustang mare Natalia.

Shortly after birth he developed a serious infection in his left hind hock and stifle
 the kind no foal can survive without treatment. He’s also walking on the toes of his front hooves due to contracted tendons, making every step a struggle.

He was rushed to the veterinary clinic for emergency care by the team at Rhinebeck Equine, where he’s now receiving the best of care including targeted treatment for the infection and supportive care for his front limbs.

He is fighting so hard and we are fighting just as hard for him. His care is critical.

And we can’t do this without all of you.

When a facility closes, horses don’t get to choose where they go. But we can choose to show up for them. And we need people to help us help them.

This intake is just one example of the ongoing need out there. Every time we say “yes,” it’s because our community stands behind us.
