Ever stop to think about everything a dock diving dog does in just one jump? 💦

Before they even leave the dock, their body is already working.

🐾 Standing in line while excited and bouncing around
🐾 Climbing the dock stairs
🐾 Holding a sit and stay with anticipation building
🐾 Exploding into a sprint down the dock
🐾 Launching off the end with full-body power
🐾 Stretching and twisting in the air
🐾 Bracing for impact when hitting the water
🐾 Swimming back to the dock

And through every step, jump, turn, and splash… they’re using muscles from nose to tail......... Shoulders. Core. Back. Hips. Rear legs.
Even the small stabilizing muscles that help with balance and body control.

Dock diving is more than “just jumping in water.”
It’s a full-body sport. 💪🐶

That’s exactly why conditioning matters.

🐾 2 days until Bleu’s first Fast CAT run of the season
This last week isn’t about pushing harder — it’s about keeping the body feeling good and ready.

Today we kept it light with some swimming.
Swimming is a great way to:
✔️ keep muscles active without impact
✔️ support recovery
✔️ keep the body moving without overdoing it

When getting close to an event, I like to focus on what a normal day would be, not heavy work.
It’s really easy to think “just one more hard session”…
but this is when doing less actually helps.

🐾 THIS is WHY KNOWING your DOG'S BODY MATTERS

A week ago, while exercising Bleu I noticed while doing a kickback stand, his right leg didn’t extend like his left — not normal for him at all.
It would’ve been easy to brush it off… but because I work him regularly, I knew something wasn’t right.

Today he went for chiropractic work.
His pelvis was off.

The chiropractor said it was a good thing I brought him in — it could’ve led to an injury.

Conditioning isn’t just about strength…
it helps you recognize when something is off.

Fast Cat Season is right around the corner.

Have you ever thought about the mechanics behind our dogs running as fast as they can?
What muscles they actually use?

Let's start with Core Strength
A strong core helps:
✔️ stabilize their spine when sprinting
✔️ transfer power from the hind end
✔️ maintain balance at high speed
✔️ reduce strain on muscles and joints

With cold weather and snow on the ground, there's simple exercises we can do indoors to make sure our dogs are ready for the explosive start and speed.

Is your dog ready?

Winter inactivity adds up — for dogs more than we think.

Walking is one of the most underestimated tools for keeping dogs fit.

Consistent, low-impact movement supports joint health, maintains muscle tone, builds endurance, and helps prevent unnecessary weight gain — especially during winter when activity naturally drops.

Letting a dog run in the yard isn’t the same as structured, purposeful movement.

It doesn’t have to be intense.
It doesn’t have to be long.

It just has to be consistent.

Winter doesn’t have to mean regression.

Movement is maintenance.

If you’ve been meaning to reset your routine, something structured is coming soon.

When it’s cold, snowy, or icy, many of us just can’t get outside as much as we’d like. And a lot of people believe that as long as their dog gets a walk or some backyard time, that’s “enough.”

But keeping our dogs fit isn’t just for sport dogs — it’s for every dog, including the ones who are happiest snuggled on the couch.

Just like us, our dogs can get stiff, lose strength, and slowly gain weight when they’re less active for months at a time. Sometimes we don’t notice it right away — until they’re slower to get up, hesitant on the stairs, or just not as bright and bouncy as they used to be.

The good news is, they don’t need a big yard, special equipment, or even to go outside to move their bodies in meaningful ways. Simple indoor activities — like gentle “follow me” walks around the house, a few sit-to-stand repetitions, or making them work a little for their food — can make a difference.

If you’d like to see more simple, gentle ideas for keeping dogs moving — especially through the winter — you’re welcome to follow Bleu’s K9 Conditioning. Little moments of movement, done consistently, can help our dogs feel better, move better, and stay healthier — even in the middle of winter. 💙

When these pieces work together, they support what I like to call functional movement — the real-life things our dogs do every day: getting up from a nap, turning in tight spaces, walking on different surfaces, or following us around the house.

As dogs age, these building blocks naturally change. That doesn’t mean they should stop moving — it simply means their movement may need to look a little different.

Gentle, thoughtful conditioning isn’t about pushing performance. It’s about supporting these basic building blocks so our dogs can keep doing the things that matter most to them, in a way that feels good.

For senior dogs, it’s not just about “exercise.”
It’s about mobility, comfort, and how they move through their everyday lives. 💙🐾

Aging doesn’t look the same for every dog.
Some slow down early. Others stay active well into their later years.

Understanding where your dog is right now matters.
