Not every cat comes around purring, asking for pets, and ready to be someone’s best friend. Some need a little more time. 💜🐾
Right now, we have three cats and kittens in our care who aren’t your typical, instantly adoptable kitties. They don’t fully trust humans yet, they aren’t fans of being picked up, and they’re still learning that people can be safe. But every single one of them is making progress, and that matters.
This is one of the many reasons Meow and Forever Cat Rescue sometimes has to put intake on hold. As much as we want to say yes to every cat in need, we also have a responsibility to the cats already in our care. We can’t keep bringing more in when some of our current residents need extra time, attention, and patience to reach their full potential.
Behavioral cases aren’t always quick wins. They take consistency, understanding, a whole lot of patience, plenty of prayer, and the willingness to meet each cat where they are. Progress might look like allowing someone to sit a little closer, playing with a toy in front of a person, or simply choosing to stay in the room instead of hiding. To some, those things might seem small. To these cats, they’re huge.
And the truth is, some may never become the cuddly, pick-me-up-and-carry-me-around cats everyone dreams of adopting. They may need a very special adopter, a different kind of home, or even a permanent place in rescue.
They still deserve the chance to feel safe, to be understood, and to live a good life. They don’t have to be the easiest cats to adopt to be worthy of our time and care.
We may be small, foster-based, and limited in what we can take on, but we believe rescue means showing up for the cats who are often overlooked, too. Even when their progress is slow. Even when the outcome is uncertain. Even when saying “not right now” to another intake is the responsible thing to do.
Because rescue isn’t just about how many cats we take in. It’s about the lives we commit to helping once they’re here. 🐈💜
Rescue. Rehabilitate. Rehome. And sometimes, simply give them the time they need. 🙏
