Heads up! You may see these green, brown, or black pod-like balls on the ground in your neighborhood at this time of the year. They are nuts from black walnut trees. The picture shows black walnuts in various sizes and stages of maturity and decay. Every part of a black walnut tree (nuts, shells, leaves, and wood) is highly toxic to dogs. The initial symptoms of black walnut poisoning include vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, and loss of appetite, followed by tremors, seizures, and jaundice. The toxins in black walnut trees can be fatal to dogs if not treated promptly. Do not attempt to use any home remedies if your dog has ingested black walnut. Time is of the essence--get your dog to a vet immediately. (More info in the comments.)

* Good with most dogs, but must be fed separately – previously lived with other dogs/likes my dogs even though they don’t like him

* We do have birds in a cage where he could reach them if he wanted, but he doesn’t bother them
* Goofy lovebug who is always running around with a toy in his mouth, sitting in human laps, and flopping over for belly rubs while giving tons of kisses. Sweet heart who gives affection just as much as he wants to receive it. He will keep you entertained and have a ball playing with you!
* Can be nervous about some strangers, but with a proper introduction he typically warms up very quickly and absolutely loves those he meets (we muzzle him when introducing him to new people just to make sure he likes them first).

His Story:
He lived in an apartment with his owner and roommates. When the owner had to move he was forced to live outside in a kennel. He was saved from euthanasia and is looking for the home he deserves!! He is loving and an all around happy guy! Open your heart and home to this sweetie!!

The pet food pantry is an essential part of helping those who need assistance with pet food monthly. They do not receive funding. Please consider donating to help offset the costs to supply food to the community in need of help with pet food.

This is a long post, please read it all!!!

The Bountiful Bowl Pet Food Pantry services all of Westmoreland County, providing pet food of all sorts to those in need. We distribute pet food on the 1st Saturday of every month. We started in Oct 2024 with our first official distribution. Since that date we have distributed :
8,214 lbs of dry dog food
1,523 cans of dog food
2,869 lbs of dry cat food
2,398 cans of cat food
2,532 lbs of litter
countless lbs of small animal food, bedding and amphibian food
we have serviced 415 families, most with multiple pets.

Last Sat. was our June distribution and we gave out:
1,390 lbs of dry dog food
73 cans of dog food
1,071 lbs of dry cat food
380 lbs of litter

We service those individuals on fixed incomes (a lot of elderly and disabled) and the working poor who are trying to make ends meet.

Pets provide us with unconditional love and who is to say that the poor, elderly or disabled should not have them, certainly not us. Only those providing services like this can truly understand what this individuals are going through. We have helped those individuals who have lost a family member, had fires, have extensive medical issues and bills, lost a job and those who are just trying to survive. It makes me think ( I get teary eyed) about the number of homeless people I have seen hiking the highways of Pa with their bags, their backpacks and their dogs. What would happen if you were in any of these situations? I know I couldn't and wouldn't give up my dogs.

We need your help to continue this mission. We do not qualify for grants we have found because we are not a rescue or a shelter. Our Last distribution wiped us out of Dog food completely.

Day # 1
Responding to request for help with 6 kittens and a momma cat from a local woman.
2 of us showed up. We walked in expecting to carry out a litter of already obtained kittens and their mom.

What we experienced the second the door opened was knowing this woman needed more help than she asked for.

The smell of urine and bleach immediate hit as the door opened. We were greated with cleaned products threw down and left for us to walk on. As we entered, we could physically see more than 6 or 7.
We looked at each other and knew the best thing to do was to work to obtain who we could fit to remove 1st. The response we received was "I must have miscounted". She knew at that point she had been very un honest about the need of help in her situation.
Try multiplying 6 x 5, the smell, urine and p**p of them all, all over the house. Fully used and uncleaned litter boxes. No water or food dishes to be filled.

Baby kittens crawling up out from under a hole in the sink. Cats kneeling down from rafters into the open ceiling in the kitchen. Several adult cats hiding under the beds and furniture of the house. Dogs afraid of strangers trying to protect their cats. Today we removed 13 cats from a severe hoarding situation. Tomorrow we return to obtain more.

When we returned to intake and assess the cats they all had drank an entire bowls worth of water. Some have missing fur from fleas, all of the kittens and atleast 2 adults have upper respiratory infections, runny eyes. One of the smallest male kittens is wheezing really bad.

We are in desperate need of assistance to get these babies healthy, fully vetted and ready for Adoption.

All kittens and cats obtained so far have been:
- Photographed
- Gendered
- Received clean food, water and blankets to sleep with.
- Treated for fleas with Frontline Gold, the ones that needed eye antibiotics received them
