3 signs your dog is bored during training 👀🐾

1. They start mentally checking out.

Sniffing, looking around, or slow responses usually mean engagement is dropping.

Solution:
Keep sessions shorter and more interactive. End before your dog loses interest.

2. They start offering random or “wrong” behaviors. 😂

Spinning, vocalizing, or cycling through commands usually means they want more stimulation.

Solution:
Increase clarity with more frequent rewards and vary the training session to keep them mentally engaged.

3. They look flat even when they know the exercise.

A bored dog often performs behaviors without enthusiasm or focus.

Solution:
Add movement, rewards, play, or new challenges to make training more exciting.

Good training should build engagement, not just obedience. 🐾🔥

Bandit really hadn’t been anywhere prior to coming to us for training. He has been WIDE open since he was rescued as a puppy and his owners were worried he would be absolutely insane inside somewhere 😅

We ended up spending 30 minutes in TSC with him laying at my feet. For the first 15-20 every time someone would walk past or move something, he was very interested and stayed alert constantly.

I had to remind him to down not because he was being bad but just because he would get very distracted. I was also feeding him constantly during this time to encourage engagement and positive associations.

The last 10 minutes he stopped trying to pop up constantly and watched with indifference as people passed - even with loud carts. Then finally, he laid his head down and completely settled. That was when I knew he had accepted his surroundings and was comfortable.

I gave him a big handful of treats and we went to the car. Learning doesn’t always look structured like sits and heeling. This experience for him was far more valuable than any obedience command I can teach.

Everyone assumes dogs should be able to exist in the world… they’re man’s best friend, right? But our world is loud, chaotic, and full of confusing stimuli to a young pup that hasn’t been introduced to it. Patience is key!
