With an Extreme Heat Warning in effect from Saturday morning through Monday night, now is the time to be extra cautious for humans and pets.

📢 Heading to a street festival this weekend? Please leave your PETS at home. ❤

As much as you’re looking forward to enjoying the sunny vibes and live energy, the sweltering heat, crowds, noise, and unpredictable conditions make festivals the wrong place for animals:

😔 Dangerously high temperatures & humidity... dogs struggle to cool themselves and risk overheating fast.

😔 Crowds & street chaos can easily spook pets, causing anxiety or accidental escapes.

😔 Limited shade, water, or relief... even the most well-intentioned owners can’t guarantee a pet’s comfort.

Let’s help our furry friends stay safe:

✔️ Keep pets indoors in cool, shaded, ventilated areas
✔️ Provide fresh water and frozen treats to stay hydrated
✔️ Avoid any outdoor activity during peak heat hours (midday–early afternoon)
✔️ Ask neighbors or family to check on senior or vulnerable pets

The Pet Food Pantry has been serving more pets each month this year. Just from January through April, it has grown by 75%, with April serving 485 cats and dogs.

Save the dates for 2025 Pet Pantry distributions beginning Saturday, January 18. All distributions are from 9 - 11 am at 2711 W Lawrence Ave. Chicago, IL 60625.

To receive pet food you must:
- Be a resident of Chicago
- Have a GCFD card or Photo ID + proof of residency
- Bring documentation for each pet you own showing they were spayed or neutered

Reminder! Free holiday meal boxes are being distributed this Saturday, December 21 from 2-5 pm at 2711 W Lawrence Ave.

How to receive a box:
- Be a resident of Cook County
- Bring your GCFD card or photo ID + proof of residency
- Come to the pantry between 2-5 pm, please do not line up before noon.
Families are also eligible to pick up toys from the toy drive hosted by Loafers Bar!
