If your dog has something you want back, snatching it can turn the moment into a very exciting game of keep-away.
Practice trades when nothing important is at stake: offer something better, let the dog release, and sometimes give the original item back. That history matters.
A trained “leave it” is wonderful. My practical backup on walks is to RUN until the dog starts panting and drops the object. Sharp objects, medication, and possible poison are emergencies, not training exercises.
