Cats can be picky, dramatic, and deeply suspicious of anything you bought specifically for them.
Still, healthy treats can be a great way to add a little joy to their day.

Some simple cat-friendly treat ideas include small pieces of plain cooked chicken, turkey, salmon, or tuna packed in water. Some cats may also enjoy freeze-dried meat treats or a little catnip as a fun reward.

Keep treats small and occasional. Cats need a balanced diet, and treats should not become their full-time job, even if they strongly disagree.
Also, avoid milk, onions, garlic, chocolate, grapes, raisins, and anything seasoned.

What treat does your cat actually approve of?

Dogs hear the word “treat” like it is a legally binding contract.
But treats do not always have to be the mystery biscuits from the back of the pantry.

Some healthy treat options for dogs can include small pieces of plain cooked chicken, carrots, blueberries, apple slices without seeds, green beans, or plain pumpkin. Keep portions small, avoid anything seasoned, and always skip foods that are unsafe for dogs, like chocolate, grapes, raisins, onions, garlic, and anything with xylitol.

Treats are a sweet way to show love, train good habits, and make your dog’s day.
Just remember, healthy love still counts.

What is your dog’s favorite healthy treat?

Pets may not use words, but they definitely know how to communicate.

The excited tail wag. The slow blink. The dramatic sigh from across the room. The paw on your arm when they want attention. The stare that clearly says, “You are five minutes late with dinner, and I will be contacting management.”

Part of loving a pet is learning their little language. Their habits, their favorite spots, their comfort cues, and the tiny things that make them feel safe and loved.

Take a minute today to notice what your pet is trying to tell you.

What is one funny or sweet way your pet communicates with you?

Dogs love a good routine, but they also love a new adventure.

A different park. A new trail. A fresh sidewalk. A place with new trees, new sounds, new people, and most importantly, new smells. Because let’s be honest, to a dog, a new walking spot is basically the evening news, a mystery novel, and a buffet of information all at once.

Taking your dog somewhere new can be great enrichment. It gives them a chance to explore, use their senses, burn energy, and enjoy something outside the usual route.

It does not have to be complicated. Try a different neighborhood walk, visit a local park, or find a pet-friendly trail where they can sniff, wander, and take in the world.

A little change of scenery can make their whole day.

Where is your dog’s favorite place to explore?

Pets need care, but they also need connection.

A full bowl and a cozy bed matter, but so do playtime, attention, affection, and mental engagement. Dogs need walks, games, sniffing time, and interaction. Cats need toys, climbing spots, quiet companionship, and maybe the occasional cardboard box they will love more than anything you actually bought them.

Engagement helps keep pets healthier, happier, and less bored. It can support better behavior, reduce stress, and give them the kind of daily joy they deserve.
Even a few intentional minutes can make a difference.

Throw the ball. Use the feather toy. Let them sniff a little longer on the walk. Sit with them. Talk to them. Yes, they absolutely understand the tone, even if they are pretending not to.

Pets give us so much love. Giving them our attention is one of the simplest ways to love them back.

One minute it feels like spring, and the next your dog is looking at you like, “Ma’am, this sidewalk is lava.”

As the weather warms up, our pets need a little extra attention. Make sure they have plenty of fresh water, shade when they are outside, and breaks from the heat. Try walking dogs earlier in the morning or later in the evening when the pavement is cooler.

And do not forget about fleas and ticks. With our trees, grass, humidity, and all the lovely little bugs that think they own Virginia, it is smart to stay on top of prevention and check your pets after they have been outside.

Warm weather can be wonderful for pets, but it also comes with things we need to watch for.
What is your pet’s favorite warm-weather activity?

Today, we honor the brave men and women who gave everything in service to our country. We also hold close the beloved pets who were part of their families and legacies.

At Cherish Pet Aftercare, we understand that losing a pet is losing family. Whether honoring a four-legged companion who served alongside our heroes or simply grieving the loss of a cherished friend, we're here to help you celebrate their memory with dignity and compassion.

To all who have served, and to all whose hearts carry the loss of a beloved pet: we remember you.

Some pets walk into our lives and immediately become family.
Maybe it was the dog who followed you everywhere. Maybe it was the cat who acted like they owned the house, because let’s be honest, they probably did. Maybe it was the pet who always knew when you needed comfort, the one who made you laugh, or the one who had the most ridiculous little habit that still makes you smile.

Pets have a way of leaving pawprints all over our routines, our hearts, and our homes.

We would love to hear about the pet who stole your heart.

What was their name, and what made them so special?

You ever notice how pets pick their person?
Out of everyone in the house… there’s always that one they follow around, sit next to, and somehow just know.
No explanation. No logic. Just loyalty.
And honestly… we wouldn’t have it any other way.
