๐ถโ๏ธ **A LITTLE CLARIFICATION ABOUT GROOMING GAPS & YOUR PUPโS GROOMING SCHEDULE** โ๏ธ๐ถ
I want to take a minute to explain my **Extended Grooming Gap Fee**, because Iโve noticed that there can sometimes be a misunderstanding about what it means โ and more importantly, what it does **NOT** mean.
The general recommendation for dogs who require haircuts is **every 6โ8 weeks.** That doesnโt mean every single dog MUST come exactly every 6โ8 weeks. Some coats, lifestyles, and individual dogs can comfortably go a little longer when they are being properly maintained at home.
However, **12 weeks should NOT be viewed as the โtargetโ or standard grooming schedule simply because that is when the gap fee begins.**
Every dog is different.
Some dogs can go longer and still come in with a healthy, manageable coat. Others absolutely cannot. A dog who consistently arrives at 10โ12 weeks **matted, heavily overgrown, excessively shedding, uncomfortable, or requiring a significant amount of dematting** may need to be groomed more frequently.
And this is especially important for dogs who are anxious or fearful of grooming.
If a dog struggles with the grooming process, regular appointments can give them more opportunities to become familiar with the routine, build trust, and gradually become more comfortable. There are certainly dogs who may always be nervous during grooming, and I understand that. โค๏ธ But allowing an already-anxious dog to go as long as possible between appointments can make the process even harder because they aren't getting those consistent opportunities to practice and become comfortable.
My goal is NOT to charge you more money. My goal is to keep your dog comfortable, their coat manageable, and the grooming process as safe and stress-free as possible โ for your pup AND for me.
I also need to be honest about something from my side of the grooming table: **I cannot continue putting my hands through repeated, excessive dematting.** I have physical limitations with my hands, and prolonged dematting is hard on me. More importantly, extensive dematting isn't something I want a dog repeatedly experiencing either.
So if your dog consistently comes in matted because they are waiting until the absolute latest possible appointment interval, I may recommend that their grooming schedule be shortened. If that recommendation continues to be ignored, it may eventually mean that Iโm no longer able to continue grooming that particular pup.
That isn't meant as a punishment. It's about finding a schedule that is actually appropriate for **that individual dog.** ๐พ
# # # So, what IS the Extended Grooming Gap Fee?
My current policy is:
โข **12โ16 weeks:** $20 Extended Grooming Gap Fee when the dog is still in manageable condition.
โข **16+ weeks:** $40โ$50 Extended Grooming Gap Fee when the dog is severely overdue or requires significant additional work because of matting or poor coat condition.
โข **Dematting fees are separate** and may still apply when additional time and work are required to safely remove mats.
There are also exceptions. If your pup can comfortably go a little longer and comes in **well-maintained, unmatted, and in good overall coat condition**, the gap fee may not apply.
# # # ๐ถ What if you had your dog groomed somewhere else?
That's completely fine! โค๏ธ I will not be hurt you go somewhere else. This is about what is best for your dog AND you!
If your pup received a **FULL grooming service somewhere else during an extended gap**, please provide proof of that grooming when you return.
A receipt, completed appointment confirmation, or other documentation showing the full details of their grooming service is acceptable.
**A basic bath-only appointment does NOT count as a full grooming service.**
If your dog was only bathed, had nails done, or received another partial service, that does not reset their grooming history. I need to be able to verify that your pup actually received a FULL groom.
If there is no proof of a full grooming service during the gap, the Extended Grooming Gap Fee will apply according to the policy.

I truly appreciate everyone who keeps their pups on a regular schedule and works with me when I recommend a different grooming interval. ๐ฅฐ
**The goal isn't simply to avoid a fee. The goal is to keep your pup's coat healthy, their grooming experience as comfortable as possible, and their appointments manageable for everyone involved.** โค๏ธ๐ถโ๏ธ
