Pet Placement Center—TN Humane Animal League We are a small, private adoption agency and Chattanooga’s oldest no-kill animal shelter. Our kennels can house about 12-15 dogs at a time.

OUR MISSION:
Pet Placement Center aims to reduce animal suffering by finding responsible homes for animals in need, promoting spay/neuter to reduce pet homelessness, and emphasizing responsible animal care through education and example. ABOUT OUR SHELTER:
We house about 25-30 cats onsite between our 2 free-roaming cat rooms along with having adoptable cats at the Naughty Cat Cafe. Our dogs get to

spend the day outdoors in fenced in yards and then sleep indoors. Kittens will remain in foster homes until fixed and ready for adoption. We also utilize foster homes for some of our pets with special needs.

Introducing our dog of the week ZYLA! Zyla is a 2.5 year old Pitbull and Pug mix girl that weighs 40 pounds...at least that is our best guess. This beauty has been with us since September 2024 which is OVER 600 DAYS! Zyla was rescued from a small outdoor pen with 3 other large dogs where she had a litter of 9 puppies. Sadly, only one of her puppies survived and was eventually adopted by her rescuer. He looks just like him mom, too!

Since Zyla has had a rough start in life, she is very hesitant to trust humans. She is extremely shy and needs a person or family who will give her time to earn her trust. Once she accepts you into her circle, she will love you forever which makes you feel extra special.

Zyla has grown to love and trust our staff and regular volunteers. She often greets them with the zoomies and a wagging tail. It will melt your heart to see her smile:) She has also learned that if you stop petting her, and she gently taps you with her paw, the pets keep coming. She may even inch her way onto your lap or next to you to ensure she gets more pets or even treats.

Zyla currently is an “office dog” where she gets to hang out with several other adoptable dogs. She does GREAT with the confidence of her dog friends and finds comfort in being near them, or even on top of them:) Zyla is also learning to walk on a leash and gets better with every attempt!

Since Zyla is still working on gaining confidence, Zyla would best benefit from a patient home and family. She needs someone willing to visit her regularly to earn that trust before taking her into their home. She most definitely needs to go to a home where she will have another dog friend and due to being a flight risk, she also needs a fenced in yard to keep her safe. While Zyla does fine around kids that come to visit, she would prefer a home without small children mostly because she prefers a more calm environment.

We know Zyla's personality is not suited for most people looking for a dog, but we also know her person is out there. If you are interested in meeting Zyla or any other PPC pet, please contact us via website or call 423-877-0738.

It’s been a great week for the dogs! Our sweet girl Oakleigh and squatty girl Nilla Bean have gone into foster homes with the hopes of being adopted. Oakleigh has been at the shelter with us for just over a year now and Nilla went with long time volunteer! We also said farewell to our charming seniors, Sam Elliott and Marley Poppins🩷💜💚🩵

These beautiful tabby girls were adopted from our shelter back in 2015. Their owners always dress them up for holidays and share their pictures. We love it!

PURR-FECTLY PATRIOTIC: Viewers Dawn and Mike Kropf sent us this photo of their cats wearing their patriotic best.

ARTHUR is one of the new guys at PPC. He came to us from Murray County due to shelter overcrowding so we don't really what his life was like before going to the shelter. This handsome boy is a 2 year old Lab and Whippet mix boy who weighs 60 pounds. We are only guessing Whippet because of his long legs and lean frame but your guess is as good as ours:)

We are still getting to know this guy but he is doing well around other dogs and on dog hikes and thouroughly enjoyed his outting to Riverfront Nights with everyone:)

Look at this doll baby and her head tilt, FLOW! She is the first mama cat for us this season. She has raised her 3 babies and is now ready for adoption herself. Flow is a 1 year old with sleek black fur and was named after the cat in the award winning movie "Flow." She was rescued by our friends with SCRATCH when her kittens were only 2.5 weekd old. She was such a good mama and has been in a foster home with kids and a large dog. She is ready for the good life now!

This week’s dog of the week is Lucinda, aka, Lulu and the Velvet Hippo! We took her and a few other dogs from Walker County Animal Shelter due to shelter overcrowding. She has been with us since January of 2026 and has become a volunteer favorite!

Lucinda is the cuddliest giant you will ever meet and doesn't mind playing dress up...as you can see. We often think that she mistakes herself for a small lap dog. She loves to go on walks with all her dog buddies. Lucinda is currently learning to pull less on the leash but we think that with continued training, she will learn right away! She has already shown signs of improvement in the short time she has been with us. She also loves to play with her rope toys and enjoys any treats that are offered to her!

Lucinda does great with all her shelter dog friends and we think that she would benefit from having another dog friend at home. She loves everyone she meets, kids too, and can’t wait to fall in love with you! If you are interested in meeting Lucinda or any other PPC pet, please contact us via website or call 423-877-0738.
