💔 Lost for nearly a year. Found thanks to a microchip.

During our weekly Community Cat Day, a calico named Ember came in for TNR surgery—but a tiny tattoo and microchip told us she wasn’t just another stray.

Her owner, Kristen, had been searching since June 2024 after Ember slipped out during a maintenance visit. The moment they were reunited? Pure magic.

“I never gave up hope but I never thought I would see Ember again,” Kristen said.

Microchips work. Make sure your pet has one. 🤍

Pupdate: A Heartwarming Update on the Dumpster Pups 🤍🐶

Two weeks ago, six puppies were rescued after being found abandoned in a dumpster. Thanks to the incredible response from our community, we have some positive news to share!

Our Animal Protection Officers were able to identify and locate the owner, who has admitted to dumping the puppies. He has since been cited for his actions.

We’re happy to report that all six puppies are doing great! Three of them have already gone to loving foster homes, while the other three are still waiting for fosters. If you’ve been thinking about opening your home to a foster pet, now’s the perfect time—these little ones are counting on someone like you.

This outcome wouldn’t have been possible without the Good Samaritan who found the puppies when he did. His quick actions truly made all the difference.

We understand that life can be challenging, and sometimes caring for a litter of puppies may feel overwhelming. However, abandoning animals in dangerous conditions is never the answer. This story is a powerful reminder of why spaying and neutering pets is so important—to prevent unwanted litters and heartbreaking situations like this.

We’re beyond grateful for the outpouring of support—thank you to everyone who donated supplies, shared the story, and helped give these pups a second chance.

Sometimes, a special dog comes along and captures a volunteer’s heart. 🤍🐶

Our sweet Zade has finally found his forever home — and we couldn’t be happier that it’s with one of our amazing, dedicated volunteers.

Zade spent a whole year at MAC. He was a wonderful dog with so much love to give, but for some reason, he just didn’t catch the attention of potential adopters. Still, he captured the hearts of many of our volunteers during his time here.

Now, Zade is starting a new chapter — full of love, comfort, and companionship — and we couldn’t imagine a more perfect ending (or beginning). We’re reminded that sometimes, when the right match doesn’t come along, a volunteer who’s fallen just a little too in love steps up and takes a pup home. And that’s a beautiful thing.

Happy National Volunteer Week to our beloved MAC volunteers! 🤍✨

You are the heart of MAC—from walking dogs and doing laundry, to crafting enrichment toys and offering comfort. Without your passion and dedication, we simply couldn’t do what we do.

We appreciate and love each and every one of you more than words can express. Your support, time, and unwavering compassion mean the world to us—and to the animals whose lives you help transform.

Our volunteers are truly extraordinary. You give so much of yourselves to help these pets feel safe, loved, and ready to trust again. If you’ve ever adopted from MAC, just know that our volunteers played a huge role in that animal’s journey.

To every single person who gives their time to MAC—no matter how often or in what capacity—thank you. You make a profound difference.

After two long days of searching in an unfamiliar town, with little knowledge of the area or access to resources, a worried couple feared they might never see their beloved dog, Fatso, again.

Thankfully, a MAC Animal Protection Officer heard about their situation. A Good Samaritan had found Fatso and brought him in, setting the stage for a heartwarming reunion.

At MAC, we strive to keep families together. After spending some time at the center—getting a check-up, vaccines, and some fresh gear—Fatso was finally reunited with his family, along with some food and a wagging tail.

Stories like these are some of our favorites. There’s nothing quite like witnessing the joy in both a pet’s and their humans’ eyes when they’re brought back together. The tight hugs, grateful tears, and heartfelt thanks are reminders of why we do what we do—because no family should be without their furry loved ones 🤍

Meet Keystone – Pet of the Week!

Keystone is a 3.5-year-old sweetheart with a wiggly tail and a heart full of love! She’s friendly, fun, and loves stuffed toys, treats, and swimming (her favorite!).

She knows how to sit and shake, is crate trained, and likely potty trained. She gets along with other calm dogs and would do best in a home with older kids.

Keystone’s been waiting nearly a year for her forever home—with only one visitor in the past few months. Let’s change that!

Her adoption fee is waived this week—come meet her!

Happy Animal Protection Officer Appreciation Week!

Our Animal Protection Officers and dispatchers face tough situations every day, and we couldn’t do what we do without them.

They serve our community with compassion, reunite lost pets with their families, respond to challenging calls, and save countless animals day after day. Their dedication is unmatched, and we’re so proud to have such an incredible team.

Not everyone is pictured, but we are truly grateful for each and every one of you. Thank you for all that you do!

A huge thank you to The Construction Cares Center for building and donating 16 amazing dog houses to the center! These sturdy, well-crafted homes will help keep animals warm and dry, and we were absolutely thrilled to spend part of yesterday delivering them to some very deserving dogs around town.

This generous donation is just another example of how incredible our community is—how much people care and how often they step up to support our mission. We’re so grateful for your kindness and commitment to helping animals in need!

We are looking for Foster Homes! 🐾‼️

We have four incredibly sweet pups in urgent need of foster homes. Each of them is dog-social and truly blossoms in the presence of a calm, confident canine friend. While they’re all a bit nervous and take time to trust, their gentle hearts are more than worth the wait.

Meet the pups:

🍦Sundae(Not currently available for adoption)
This big puppy is full of love! Once she warms up, she’s goofy, affectionate, and playful. Sundae is incredibly dog-social and would thrive in a home with another dog to help guide her and teach her respectful play.

🏔️Highland- A sweet, sensitive soul. Highland has made progress as an office dog, but we’re concerned she’ll regress if moved into a busier environment. Due to her severely docked ears, she’s highly sensitive to touch around her head. She needs a quiet, patient home and would do great with another friendly pup. She loves toys and has a lot of love to give.

🧸Brody- This boy is so scared and shut down. Brody desperately needs a confident dog companion to show him the ropes. Dorm life is too stressful for him—he needs a calm, nurturing foster to help him come out of his shell. He’s a total sweetheart once he starts to trust.

🤎Bailey (Not currently available for adoption)-
Bailey is deeply anxious and unsure right now. She barely moves, struggles with leash walking, and is very wary of new people. She needs a quiet, understanding foster home to help her feel safe and secure. A calm dog buddy could make a world of difference for her.

Meet Perseus, Odyssey, and Artemis—three incredible pups who came to us scared of humans, nervous around other dogs, and unsure of the world. With time, love, and patience, they’ve blossomed into confident, happy, and outgoing companions!

Perseus (3 yrs) – A playful, energetic sweetheart who LOVES fetch and adores all animals and people. He’s full of life and ready to bring joy to a forever home!

Odyssey (3 yrs) – Independent and full of personality! He’s obsessed with stuffed toys, loves zoomies in the yard, and is super social with other dogs.

Artemis (6 yrs) – Calm, social, and leash-trained, this lovely lady is all about good vibes. She’s great with well-mannered dogs but would prefer a cat-free home.

These three are ready for their next chapter—could it be with you? Come meet them and fall in love!

Saving Animals, Helping People

Our vision is to eliminate animal overpopulation, cruelty, and neglect. To create a culture of compassionate care, community engagement and advocacy for animals by providing programs and education that support people and companion animals.

At the McKamey Animal Center we aspire to the five freedom principles that are generally recognized in the animal welfare community. The principles are: 1. Freedom from hunger or thirst – by ready access to fresh water and a diet to maintain full health and vigor 2. Freedom from discomfort – by providing an appropriate environment 3. Freedom from pain, injury or disease – by prevention or rapid diagnosis and treatment 4. Freedom to express normal behavior – by providing sufficient space, proper facilities and company of the animal’s kind 5. Freedom from fear and distress – by ensuring conditions and treatment which avoid mental suffering
