Dear Lead the Way K9 Training Family & Friends,

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the closure of Lead the Way K9 Training. This difficult decision was not made lightly, and it comes after much consideration and reflection.

We have been honored to serve this wonderful community, working with hundreds of dogs and their families to help them live happier, more harmonious lives together. The trust you placed in us and the relationships we built have been incredibly rewarding and meaningful.

We are profoundly grateful for the support you have shown us throughout this journey. Your commitment to your dogs’ well-being has inspired us every day, and we are proud of the positive impact we have made together.

While this chapter is coming to an end, we cherish the memories and accomplishments we have shared. Thank you for being a part of the Lead the Way K9 Training family.

Instead of our usual training tip Tuesday, here are some tips to help get you through 4th of July! 🎆🇺🇸🎇

More dogs go missing on July 4th, than any other day of the year. So be sure their ID tags and microchip information is up to date with your current address and phone number.

Make sure they have a safe space to hang out and your doors are closed and if necessary, draw curtains over the windows. Give them a special treat or toy to keep them occupied and distracted. White noise machines or music can help to drown out the sound of the fireworks.

Keep them away from dangerous foods and decorations. Things like cooked chicken bones can be dangerous and be sure to have them securely put away if setting off fireworks!

Give your dogs some good exercise before the festivities begin. A good long walk or a game of fetch or tug is a good way to expend some energy.

Can you believe it is already July! 🇺🇸🎆

Before you know it, the kids will be back to school and we’ll all be planning for the holidays! Now is a great time to start training your dog so you can enjoy the fall and winter holidays with the family and avoid the usual chaos and stress that an untrained dog can cause.

Wouldn’t it be great to not stress about your dog bolting out the door when guests arrive or have them be able to greet your guests calmly? How about stopping the counter surfing and not worrying about them stealing food off the table? And with the weather becoming nicer, wouldn’t it be nice to be able to have your dog accompany you for those outing to the Farmer’s Markets and walking on leash nicely?

Just some hot weather tips for you and your dog!

-Never leave your dog in the car
-Watch out for hot surfaces
-Provide plenty of shade, water and cool place to rest
-Limit outdoor exercise
-Keep an eye out for signs of heatstroke

We’ve definitely hit the heat of summer and we want everyone to stay safe!

Training Tip Tuesday

For safe and healthy dog play, your dog should know the rules! As their owner and advocate, you should recognize their play style to pair them with dogs of a similar play style for play dates and be ready to reinforce these rules and take a pause to reset the energy level when needed. Respect your dog’s comfort around other dogs and keep in mind that your dog’s comfort, play style and socialization level is not necessarily the same as another dog’s. Just as most humans don’t like everyone they meet, most dogs don’t want to engage and play with every other dog they meet, either.
