We are looking for a foster for Mater. Mater is approximately 4.5 months and weighs about 30-35lbs. He is described as a total love bug. He has done well with dogs and limited exposure, but is definitely very interested in cats so we are going to say no cats. if you are interested in fostering Mater please complete a foster app at: northmeckanimalrescue.org All supplies provided.

Behind the Rescue: Why do some wonderful dogs wait so long?

Luca came to us as a tiny baby in April, and six months later, he's still waiting for his forever home. He's a sweet, funny, smart pup with tons of potential to become someone's soul dog. So why hasn't he been chosen?

He's a big boy. Many adopters have weight limits imposed by landlords, or practical limits on the size of dog they can realistically handle.

He's a bully mix. Housing restrictions and breed stigma can be barriers, even for people who would love to have a dog like Luca.

He's seven months old. Many people looking to adopt a puppy want a tiny one. Luca is still very much a puppy, but he's not exactly tiny anymore.

He was one of many. Luca and his siblings were born in March, along with countless other puppies who were also looking for homes. With so many dogs available for adoption, even wonderful candidates can be overlooked.

We can't say exactly why Luca hasn't found his family yet. But his story illustrates something we see all the time in rescue: being young, healthy, adorable, and full of potential doesn't guarantee a quick adoption.

And while Luca waits, he keeps getting bigger (and even more handsome). The tiny puppy who arrived in April is becoming a young dog, and we'd love for him to spend the next stage of his life growing up with a family of his own. ❤️
