The PAWS Humane Society (Floyd County Humane Society) is a 501c3 nonprofit organization that works closely with the Charles City Police Department. We strive to encourage humane care and treatment for the animals we shelter and see that their interests and well-being are humanely protected by an aware and caring society. All the animals in our shelter are stray with a story we may never know. Some

of them unwanted and have been abandoned, while still perfect in all the important ways. Many have been cast aside by their owners. Some owners didn’t have enough time. Some dogs were surrendered because they barked too much, others because they didn’t bark enough. We don’t always know the reason why these animals are brought to us and never claimed, but we’re here to show them that they’re worth saving. The one thing all these animals have in common is that each is hoping for you to bring them home and give them a loving new family. We hope you will help us help them.

Anyone else feel like Mason the Monday after a holiday? 🤣😴🐾

Mason has been in a foster home since the end of December and we would love to find him a permanent home by summertime 🌞 Perfect time for walks in the sunshine and time at the dog park!

He had a very rough life before coming to Paws and he deserves the absolute best! CCPD picked him up aFter several witnesses saw his owner beating him and sHocKing him with a shock collar 😠
We are all thankful for those people who stood up for him and got him out of the situation!

Mason does have some anxiety the foster mom is working through with him, but in the right home he would flourish and make an amazing companion 💙 We think he would do well with another dog (after a meet and greet) and would be best in a home without cats.

Please share his story in hopes of finding him a loving forever home! 🏡

This neglected dog was brought in yesterday by the CCPD. Picked up on Iowa Street but the dog was originally posted on Facebook found 4/13 on Ocean Avenue, outside Charles City.

He is an intact male, no collar or chip. Owner needs to contact CCPD to verify he's their dog & show vaccination records.

It's sad the "Doodle" overbreeding has resulted in many sweet dogs not properly cared for that end up in shelters.

We are hoping to get this gentle guy we named Cadbury vaccinated/neutered asap and to a groomer. We would greatly appreciate donations to help with his care. Paypal: [email protected] or Venmo: pawscharlescity

Meet Peep our most recent cat!

She is approx. 10 months old, spayed, vaccinated & healthy. Peep is a complete lovebug who wants to be in the middle of people & action.

Peep would do great with kids & other pets. Her markings are super cute & she has tiny tuffs of hair on the tip of her ears.

Featured below is Misty when she went to KCHA News on Wednesday! She is a super sweet 5 year old brindle pit bull mix who loves people and attention. She howls in her kennel like a husky when she knows we're on the cat side or outside with another dog. 🥺

Lost Dog!
This sweet boy ran away this morning 4/15 from his home, 1 mile west of Bassett.

He is neutered, chipped & wearing a collar but no tags. He is tall & slender. He is chocolate brown color with a white chest & white forelegs that are speckled.

Lucky & Charm, our senior cats who were abandoned, still both need homes. They are approx. 10-13 years old and both are front declawed.

Lucky is the long-haired, orange tabby. He is a neutered boy. He is shy but very loving. He has a cute crinkly ear & purrs loudly when petted.

Charm is a chunky Calico with pretty green eyes. She is a little more brave than Lucky but also quiet. She would love to sit & gaze out a sunny window.

We are ok adopting them together or separately. Their adoption fees are sponsored (already paid). Lucky & Charm are stressed living in cages. Please share to help us find them loving, quiet homes.

Clara, the beautiful German Shepherd Dog, was adopted last week & is doing wonderful in her new home! The couple adopted a Shepherd from PAWS many years ago. We are so thankful they returned to adopt again. They are keeping her name Clara & she is enjoying long walks & relaxing in the house. 🥰

Meet Misty! This sweet Brindle girl will be a wonderful companion. She is approx. 5 years old. Misty was spayed & vaccinated by our vet last week.

Misty is a joyful dog who gives wet kisses, walks nicely on a leash and does well with other dogs. We've not tested her with cats yet. She is housebroken & is well behaved.

Super happy news to share!

Eliza was brought to PAWS on 2/20 with a very deep bite would on her leg. Her owner never reached out to claim her or help with vet expenses. Eliza required multiple surgeries & bandage changes every other or every 2 days. She was a very sweet dog thru the pain & trauma.

PAWS was very grateful when a local woman, Connie, offered to foster Eliza 9 days after she arrived. Connie devoted her time to nursing Eliza & transporting to vet appointments. We couldn't have found a better foster mom! ❤️

We are beyond thrilled that Connie has decided to adopt Eliza & be her forever caretaker. Eliza's wound is nearly healed & soon will be able to go for walks to explore. Best wishes sweet Eliza.
