Update on Val, our beautiful Australian Shepherd!! A wonderful couple from Mason City have been fostering Val for 3 1/2 weeks.
The progress made by this timid dog in less than a month is absolutely amazing! We are quite certain Val had never lived in a home or had much people attention before coming to PAWS. The foster couple have been so patient & loving helping Val overcome her fears. She is now fully housebroken, enjoys going for car rides, walks nicely on a leash & has gained confidence meeting new people & seeing dogs while walked. Val is extremely smart & likes mental challenges finding treats in dog puzzles. She is also now playing with soft stuffed animals and wagging her tail with more confidence. Val is finally relaxed enough to enjoy life & be a happy dog!! Yay!! ❤️🐾
The foster couple absolutely love Val (who they call Sadie) but they feel they are not the best matched, long-term home to meet Val’s needs. They feel she needs owners somewhat younger & more active and a fenced yard would be a huge plus because Val loves being outside. 🌳
Val would do well as an only pet but is non-reactive to cats and with slow introductions would most likely do well with a dog friend, as long as the other dog was not too dominant. Val would not be a good match with young kids (under age 7) given her shy nature. It would be awesome if her adopters had a flexible schedule versus leaving her alone long periods of the day. 🏡
We REALLY hope we can find a loving forever home for Miss Val soon to transition her from her foster home. Val is approximately 1 1/2 years, spayed & fully vaccinated. Her adoption fee is sponsored.
